DYMO LabelWriter 4XL

Superb! I purchased this as part of the Amazon Warehouse deals. I was a little nervous as it stated that packaging or the product could have cosmetic damage. The item arrived (albeit much quicker than the estimate) and was in perfect condition, and I struggled to find the cosmetic damage detailed. One of the booklets was scribbled over, by a child in felt tip, but to be fair it was the warranty booklet, so nothing that impacts the item and will probably be thrown in a drawer, anyway. I quickly plugged it all in and thankfully as I have upgraded from the Dymo LabelWriter 400, it was as easy as plugging it in and getting started. I already had the Dymo V8 software installed, although this is easy enough to download from the website, if I hadn't. I bought the 4XL printer as I wanted to be able to print postage labels through the Hermes website. I feel I am spending a lot on ink cartridges, paper and document wallets, so this seemed like the obvious choice. My 'old' Dymo gets minimal use, purchased in my ebay heyday for printing postage. Now I have moved to using Hermes with fully tracked service, I don't have much use for the Dymo, given that I print my labels using my trusty inkjet. Having recently spotted Hermes thermal label options, it set the old brain ticking as to what options were available and research lead me to the Dymo 4XL. I have yet to receive my full size labels, but I have already tried existing labels in the printer and found they work fine, so that is enough of a test for me. I love Dymo label printers, having owned my LabelWriter 400 for the past few years. They pay for themselves in the long run and I will save on ink cartridges, paper and 'document enclosed' wallets, so it will pay for itself over time. Dymo software is great and easily accessible from their website. Compatible labels are also readily available and pretty cost-effective. All round a great product! Highly recommended!

Firstly, if you're still printing labels using your A4 printer, and then folding them down to size and inserting them into sticky document wallets, or worse cellotaping them to your parcels, then do yourself a favour, get a 4x6" thermal label printer. Make sure it's a "thermal" printer, as these use high heat to print onto your label paper. There's no ink, no toner, and no ribbons to worry about. My first one was a cheap unbranded Chinese job. It was good, very solid and well built, and it did the job, but not very well. The print quality was poor, so I would usually have to print my label twice or three times and pick the best one. I did this for about a year and got tired of the waste, so I decided to upgrade. It was a choice between a Zebra GK420d, or a Dymo 4XL. I picked the Dymo just on price, getting a great bargain from the Amazon Warehouse. It's brilliant. It's lighter and slightly smaller than my unbranded printer, but it looks smart and the print quality is magnificent, really genuinely excellent. No more double or triple printing! One thing to note. The Dymo 4XL will accept unbranded (cheap!) labels, for around a fiver a roll if you shop round. The Dymo 5XL is the same printer, and it costs maybe £30 less. But it will only accept branded Dymo labels at about £22 a roll. Do the maths - it's just not worth it. The print quality is no better using branded labels, especially if you're only printing parcel shipping labels. Buy the 4XL.

The mrs bought this for our business and I was definitely a little shocked at the price tag when she told me about it HOWEVER... This is a really great printer & It was definitely worth the investment. We use this for royal mail click and drop and it prints all the labels in absolutely no time. It doesn't require ink so is extremely cheap to run (just gotta buy the labels to print on) & it's so easy that even I can use it. Installation was quick and simple. For the Mrs, she just plugged it in and it downloaded drivers automatically. For me, I just googled dymo drivers and downloaded them in minutes. The quality of the printing is outstanding. We mainly use it for postage labels but you CAN use it for whatever you want in black and white. You can print an a4 picture of a cat onto a label if you really want to (we have) for the kids to stick around the house. Of course, it downsizes to the label size so don't expect it to actually print I'm a4. Overall it's a pretty versatile machine & the quality has exceeded my expectations. We use it daily and its never had an issue (touch wood). It doesn't print in colour & It only prints in label size which is something like 6x4inches. It does what it's made for and more so would highly recommend!

Did the job reasonably well, and I printed about 100 labels over the past 9 months. Decent enough quality, etc. But unfortunately has just stopped working. It's an 'unrecognised USB device'. I've tried the usual, including re-installing drivers, new USB ports, and even tried on a new PC. All the same. From a web search & also reviews on here, this is sadly not uncommon. Currently waiting on Dymo UK to hear about warranty repair/replacement. But not impressed for an item which is close to £200 !

I was hesitant about this purchase as it's quite expensive, but it's been absolutely brilliant! I use mine mainly to print address labels through Etsy (it works seamlessly), thought I've used Royal Mail's 'click and drop' service with it too, without issue. It was easy to set up and, although the software took a while to download, it was worth it as it's surprisingly extensive and allows for a lot of creative freedom for such little labels. One thing I've found is that, since downloading the software, my Samsung printer's 'eco driver' software is now malfunctioning. No idea why, and it's not that big a deal as I've just disabled the eco driver, but I thought it worth noting. The labels are easy to change over, printing is quick and accurate, the thing is clever; when my label roll ran out with half a label at the end of a roll, the machine automatically reprinted that whole label when I'd changed the roll. It's compact, responsive, and idiot-proof.

Purchased this to be able to churn out 6x4 shipping labels after buying postage online - so much neater and quicker than either writing on the packaging with a sharpie or cutting A4 sheets down to size and trying to tape then on. Once you get into a system it is so quick and easy to churn stuff out and send it off. The supplied software seems fine but to be honest I don't use it - once everything was set up right I just print straight from the postal supplier. Top Tip: if you are using a Mac and trying to print 6x4 straight from the web then the default margins can play absolute havoc. You need to go in to print settings and zero then before saving it off as a custom print size. Once you've done that then it really is one click from PayPal. Only slight complaint is the high cost of the unit. I have one of the smaller Dymo machines that was approx a quarter of the cost of this one. Although it should be more expensive (larger parts, etc) it doesn't feel that the difference should be so big.

With an eBay business picking up pace, I decided I needed a dedicated thermal printer for my postage labels. Other eBay sellers recommended the Zebra brand, but I couldn't stretch to Zebra's prices, so I thought I'd give the slightly more affordable Dymo 4XL a go. I have one of Dymo's smaller label printers, the Label Writer 450, and my experience with that had not been fantastic, so I was hesitant. The Label Writer 450 had been erratic in its output, and stubborn as a mule. It printed when it wanted to, not when I needed it too, so I really wasn't sure what I'd get with this 4XL. I'm using my 4XL with a 2017 MacBook Pro, which I love for its plug and play simplicity with peripherals like printers. This 4XL comes with the power cable, transformer plug, and USB A cable. Since Apple decided to go their own way, my MacBook doesn't have traditional USB A slots; it has USB C. This meant I had to plug the USB A cable into a converter, which worked fine but looked untidy. I've subsequently purchased a cheap USB C printer cable, which has worked just fine with it. On its first installation, the printer was up and ready in seconds, which was great. No need for drivers or updates. I just set my eBay postage settings to output to 4x6, and out came the label. So easy. For the first few weeks, all went well. Labels printed well from eBay, and from Royal Mail's online postage website. There was no problem with the labels being scanned at the post office. I purchased generic replacement labels (Search for Dymo S0904980 Compatible 4XL Internet Postage Extra-Large 104mm x 159mm Shipping Labels) which worked a treat and were a fraction of a price of the Dymo originals. You do not need the Dymo originals, no matter what they say. The generics work just as well. However, it then started to go wrong, for no obvious reason. I didn't change any settings on my MacBook. I didn't move the unit, drop it, or change on the unit. The computer would report that the printer wasn't connected, or tell me it was out of labels, when a full roll had just been installed. It would randomly spit out three blank labels at the start of a job before printing my label. I watched endless videos from people with similar problems, but they only went as far as "Turn it on and off again". I changed the roll of labels on a regular basis. One expert suggested uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it, which I did regularly, but didn't seem to make much difference. Because there is only one light up button on the front of the printer, this is how the printer is supposed to communicate that there is an error. If the button is flashing, there's an error. What's the error - who knows? Take your pick from several possible options in the manual, and don't expect much help from Dymo customer support. They'll just send you an image of common problems which could cause the button to flash, from things like the unit having no labels installed, to your labels being misaligned or stuck in the feeder. When the light flashes, I resign myself to spending an hour unloading and re-loading the labels, pushing the various assorted feed buttons, removing the power cord and putting it back in, and just walking off and leaving it for it ten minutes to sort itself out. Most of the time, it seems to sort itself out and I'm back up and running a while later, with me having done nothing I hadn't done a hundred times before. Perhaps it's the tone of voice I use when I eventually lose my temper and shout at it? I will never know. When it works well, it churns out clear, legible, labels faultlessly, and I love it. The labels look smart and professional, and I have no doubt they make a far better impression on my customers than the old sticky back document wallet system I was using. However, when it goes wrong, it will drive you mad with frustration and make you want to hurl it at the wall. This is a machine for people who have the time and patience to troubleshoot it on a regular basis, but if you're looking for a reliable machine to deal with a high volume of labels, I would recommend spending a bit more and getting something different.

I bought this for printing Postage Labels for Royal Mail and Courier Labels for shipping. I read on a Forum that you could use this for Royal Mail postage as they only allow you to print in A4 or A6 on A4 Paper. This was a real pain and very time consuming. When I got it, I was very dismayed as it would not. I then figured out you have to use the screen grab on Dymo Software to capture a picture of the PDF that Royal Mail gives you of the postage and place it on the label template. You need to use the Advanced options by double clicking on the image and picking the Advanced Tab and alter the picture size to A6. It works brilliantly and saves a ton of time and paper. With myHermes, it just prints straight to the label amazing so much easier to ship no more document pouches printing A4 folding and inserting a real time saver It is easy to install and if you have another Dymo Label like I have you can just change printer and choose a different Dymo label printer to print from the drop-down. If you are shipping a lot and using Royal Mail for postage this will save you a ton of time and speed up the whole process.. Expensive but really worth it A word to the wiser do not use the screen grab for Bar Codes on a shipment with a Courier as the bar codes won't Scan found this out when I took it to the drop shop and they scanned it. Has to print directly from the couriers software if the bar code stretches at all it won't​ scan..

La 4XL reste la meilleure de chez dymo car ils ont sorti la version 5 XL qui est très mauvaise la différence entre les deux c'est que la 5 XL comporte un RFID qui détecte le papier s'il vient bien de chez eux ou pas donc forcément vous êtes pas libre d'acheter du papier ou vous le souhaitez et pas n'importe quel prix ce qui n'est pas très pratique chez le consommateur car le consommateur doit rester libre d'acheter où il veut son papier

This printer is great, I got it cheaper on Amazon than other places I had looked and so it was great value for money. I use this to print labels from Australia Post and they come out great. The only issue I have is that for some countries when shipping internationally the labels are too small and I revert back to my printer with A4 labels. The setup is easy, the biggest issue is feeding the first labels in on each roll. I find that sometimes the printer doesn’t read all the markers or I feed the label in too far, so at the start of each spool I have some wastage of labels. Perhaps over time I’ll learn the nuances to reduce this. All in all, I am glad I bought it and it does the job well.

I bought the Dymo 450 Turbo first, thinking it would be better for all my file folder labels (which it is great for that) and also to print my Amazon/eBay business shipping labels. WRONG... the 450 Turbo does NOT print large enough labels to use the industry standard 4x6 size, and the largest label it can print is way too small to use with USPS. Enter the LabelWriter 4XL. THIS ONE does it all. I can easily print multiple 4x6 printing labels for my Amazon/eBay business, and then just switch the label spool and just as easily print 1-1/8 x 3-1/2 file folder labels, then switch back. If you want to print 4x6 shipping labels THIS IS THE ONE HYOU HAVE TO HAVE! I'll be returning the 450 Turbo later today.
