Can this be used outside if varnished afterwards?

If using outside I would make sure the surface it’s attached to is clean and dry as you will need a good addictive contact so the weather elements don’t affect it. I would use some spray addictive on the surface first let it dry and then you have a great bond for the tape to stick too and then apply the varnish as a top coat so the tape is protected from being scratched

Yes should be fine - you can also use some solvent spray to free up the adhesive if it is stubborn.

I was looking to use this to cover the trim on a fireplace, how would it cope with the heat?

I covered a picture frame with it , I found it very difficult to avoid creases. I don’t know if it will cope with heat. Hope this helps

Would this tape be ok to use to cover a mirrored kitchen splash back? It will be about 20cm from a gas hob.

I have used it on my tiled hob splash back. One of the tiles had burnt coating as it was closest to the big burner and kept bugging me so I covered it with copper tape. 2 months in. So far so good. I can clean it well, it doesn’t peel off and it doesn’t burn.
