I was reliably informed on a recent visit to Solingen to buy products for my shop that if there isn't a line above the word Solingen then the items are not made in Solingen.There is nothing wrong with out sourcing to other countries but customers with an interest in heritage manufacturing should not be deceived.A customer should be allowed to make an informed choice about where products are made which usually means paying more due to higher European labour rates compared to the Far East..The brand word Solingen does not necessarily mean it is made in Germany.

I'm very fond of this strop. Below is a list of advantages, and a minor disadvantage:Advantages:1) The leather: The leather is perfectly smooth and flat. It also has a suede-like texture, as opposed to a shoe leather-like texture, which improves its performance.2) The canvas: The canvas is very, very soft, so you don't have to worry about imperfections damaging your razor. (There are none.) Care has clearly been taken in the sewing at the left and right hand sides of the canvas strip, so your razor won't be roughed by the edges.3) The stitching: I pull hard on this strop on a daily basis, and the stitching hasn't given at all.4) The metal: Stainless as promised, the metal work is sturdy and won't bend, and pivots freely where it should.5) Robustness: It arrived folded in half. I was worried, but its performance was not affected.6) Durability: I've been using it for 7 months now, and it is still as effective as it was when new.Disadvantage:Wording has been indented into the top 1.5"/3cm of the leather (see photo), and I'm reluctant to run the blade across this uneven surface, leaving less useful surface area.Bottom Line:This strop does everything a perfect strop should do. It gets the razor to a perfect sharpness with ease, and I have to rehone much less than with my previous strop.

I am new to shaving with a cut throat razor, so also have never needed to use a strop before. This one is made from a substantial piece of cowhide and the fittings seem adequately robust. This makes it easy to use, but whether it performs well in its blade-sharpening task, is hard for me to say. I bought my first razor a month before I got the strop. When it was new, the razor's performance was excellent, but its performance noticeably worsened in a week or so. Using the strop has improved it a bit, but not up to its sharpness when new. There are no instructions with the strop, so I am just using such advice as can be obtained on the internet to sharpen and use the razor.

The product produced by Dovo is very high quality there is no issue there. The packaging is a different story. Some straight razors can range in excess of hundreds of pounds and stripping is really important to maintain your razors edge. When this product was packaged it wouldn’t fit properly i.e. laid out flat, so one of the ends was folded over. When seeing this I unfolded the strop and had to put it under something heavy to try to work out the crease caused by the poor packing after a week the crease was still there so I then spent my time hooking my strop to the door handle and repeated pulling and stretching the strop to simulate the usual motion without using my expensive razors. Finally after a couple of weeks the crease has almost worked itself out. Like I said a good quality product, it’s my second Dovo strop but be aware about the chance of it being packaged poorly.

This is a very elegant and luxurious. Will look great in the bathroom by my sink love the quality.

Me llego algo sucio en el parte de arriba (donde se cuelga a la pared). Lo limpié con un trapo mojado, pero como resultado, se manchó. Funciona bien, solamente ya no es blanco y bonito...

Great leather strop though it's not 3 inches wide as shown in the description; which would have been nice but it's a high quality strop from Dovo so I can't complain.

Seller does not make it clear that the strop doesn't contain a canvas side. There are dual sided strops out there for the same price, buyer beware.
