Is this marker permanent?

It depends what you use it on. It is not permanent in the same way a Sharpie is or Laundry pen is but it will do a good job in place of these in most instances. However, a thicker consistency of fluid in the marker & as such it can leave a very slightly raised line/mark. This means that it might get scratched , bumped or knocked off in contact with other objects bumping it - or if you have a grandchild that is determined to pick her name off her lunch box! A couple of initials on the neck of a school sweatshirt survive many 30deg washes, as do names on labels. Rock decorating is excellent & I use them to write on my glass storage jars etc... all with no issue. Excellent all round pens - shake well before use & keep the lids on they last well.

will it work well on glass?

It will but I suggest that you practice before you apply it to the final piece. Getting the flow through the tip takes a little bit of practice but once you have acquired the technique you can achieve good results
