The Metabolic Effect Diet: Eat More, Work Out Less, and Actually Lose Weight While You Rest : Teta, Jade, Teta, Keoni: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Really sensible advice, educational and informative - Really informative, easy to read book. Don't get this if you want a step by step restrictive diet but if you want to understand how your metabolism works and how to adjust your lifestyle to get fit and lose fat forever this is the best book I've found. I tried another book that made sense but didn't work for me. I've only been following this one for a few days and already I'm feeling energised rather than sluggish as soon as I wake in the morning. Morning headaches have also disappeared. I'm not expecting a miracle weight loss but looking forward to sculpting my body and feeling healthier. Many years ago, having had 4 children close together, I lost the baby fat with Slimming World and weight training. I continued to be very active and work out roughly following Slimming World, eating lean meat, lots of veg and limited carbs. This worked for 20 years then post menopause with empty nest and a sedentary lifestyle I've piled on 5 stone. I thought I was too old to do anything about it but this book has motivated me to get off the couch, exercise and go back to sensible eating. Review: Excellent - I found this book interesting, practical and easy to refer to. The way that the eating plan is explained around 'the science' was easy to understand and follow. I used the book mainly for the diet as I have been working out as the Metabollic Effect Diet has advised for some time but couldn't get my eating right. As the writers suggest the mainstream diets are focused on losing weight but this plan helps you lose fat and not muscle. I lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks and reduced my fat percentage and it was so easy and the important thing is that I am not hungry or craving rubbish any more. Definitely worth a read

Good book but nothing new in here
I read a lot of books on diet and fitness for two reasons: 1. I like to stay fit and healthy and 2. I run a diet and fitness website so I like to keep up to date with trends and new developments. I found the information in this book to be a bit of each of the following: Making the Cut: The 30-day Diet and Fitness Plan for the Strongest, Sexiest You - This book by Jillian Michaels is based around finding your body type which is determined by your metabolism and then adjusting your diet and exercise around that to best benefit for you rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. Body by Science: A Research Based Program to Get the Results You Want in 12 Minutes a Week - An excellent and interesting book selling us the idea of working with our body rather than against it and again by listening to your body and adjusting your diet, you can apparently do exceptionally short workouts based on 'blasts' of energy in a power circuit fashion which will build muscle and burn fat quicker than the old 80s aerobic belief. It has long been realised that the body does not necessarily burn fat and act at its most effective while doing consistent aerobic workouts. This book is an excellent in depth analysis and explanation of how to utilise diet and exercise to best effect with minimal effort. The 4-Hour Body: An uncommon guide to rapid fat-loss, incredible sex and becoming superhuman: The Secrets and Science of Rapid Body Transformation - Now this book is a little extreme and quite difficult to get into but the concept is the same. By learning more about how our body works and working 'with' it, we don't need to be slogging our guts out at the gym for hours and hours a week. I don't think anyone reading this book would go to the extremes that Tim did but we can all learn and benefit from his results and observations. The Dukan Diet - Just the diet bit not the exercise but it covers the same principle of balancing proteins and carbs and reducing carbs overall to great effect. First of all, bodybuilders have realised for years that in order to build muscle and reduce fat, protein is the way to go. An excess of carbs for anyone is a big mistake but most of our daily foodstuffs available these days are carbohydrate heavy. Secondly anyone heard of Ayurveda?? An age old Indian system of body types and eating to best benefit your particular body type. So nothing new there. Perhaps the only way this book stands out a little is that is emphasises 'Hormones' and the role they play in our metabolism and in our bodies in general. It is fairly obvious but people do not always realise the obvious. What happens at 'middle age', the menopause, during pregnancy, puberty etc ? Hormonal changes which generally bring about body changes particularly with regard to shape and size. So I see this book as a new slant on an old theory. But does it work? I have not tried this particular programme yet but I do weight training and have followed the high protein diet for several years now and yes that works. Also, I know that working out every day is not actually beneficial to your body as it can overwork muscle and actually prevent them from building up (if they cannot heal properly they cannot build) and I know that if I miss a couple of workouts, I generally really go for it the next time and push myself and see no difference in effects if I only workout 2 times that week as opposed to 4 so in theory the minimal exercise approach should work so long as the exercise is full on effort when done. This book gives you plenty of suggested recipes for your body type to follow. The information is presented in a very readable way and easy to read and digest (I don't think it has a high carb content :-) ) and should be fairly easy to follow. In practice, doing 3 x 20 min workouts a week is easy. So most people will be willing and able to do that but the programme will not work on that alone, you HAVE to follow the diet recommendations for this to work and in practice that is the hardest thing for people to do. Changing your eating habits is possible but takes perseverance and strength of will. It is so easy to slip back into old ways and that can really mess things up. I know, when I am doing a fat-burning 4 days of protein only - it is really hard to stick to you and you yearn for croissants or crisps or potatoes even though you know it is only 4 days of your life without them. In conclusion, it is a good book. Well written, plenty of factual support to its concepts and if followed should work.

Interested and disappointed
My book has just arrived. I am yet to read it but am hopeful it will be a great read. I am disappointed though as my book is ripped. Which I don’t expect from a new book.

The book in a lucid manner explained the impact of hormones in our body and how they affect the body weight. The cookie cutter approach to weight loss for everybody is not feasible as each body type is different. The explanations on how different hormones work was easy to understand and how to optimise on the exercises to get the best fat loss. The book was an eye opener as most people consider that one should eat less and exercise more to lose weight - this is absolutely not true. The authors present their arguments substantiated with facts and science to explain the concept of fat loss. A well written book, very informative and also inspires one to review their exercise and food patterns.

This a is book well worth reading. I am wondering though, WHY they called it the Me DIET. It's not a diet book. Sure, it's information that helps you adjust how you're eating, but primarily it is about eating smaller and more frequent meals, in conjunction with 'rest-based' training, which I find fascinating. I have pretty much been eating this way for a while now, and have lost of bunch of weight prior to discovering this book, BUT I have plateaued and wondered if I was missing something. I believe the New Me Diet and the information from brothers Jade and Keoni Teta is the missing link. Now I just have to apply it. They have the training and education to back up everything they say; it's all about hormones, and whether or not your metabolic type is a factor. Are you a sugar/fat or mixed (combo of the 2) burner? We all have particular ways of eating/craving food. There is a comprehensive quiz to establish what kind of 'burner' you are. I've just gone through the book once, and am going to go through it again, so I'm well aware of what I can do in order to budge this last 5-10 pounds. Thank you Jade and Keoni on coming from a place of health and wellness. I much more respect the fact that they are both naturopathic physicians, biochemists, and personal trainers with a lifetime of being athletes. Not a crash diet - this is a lifestyle change. The book is VERY easy to read and gives many examples of individuals who have had trouble losing and maintaining weight in the past, finally succeed by eating more and exercising less (but more effectively). Well done.

Ce livre est intéressant, la présentation des exercices est assez peu pratique à l'usage. Reste encore à faire tout cela !

Dr. Jade Teta and his brother Dr. Keoni Teta have created one of the absolutely best programs here. It is far more than a diet or exercise book. It is a lifestyle changing, life saving book. It is based on both science and their years of actual hands on with patients. I am a big believer now. I have read the book twice now. The first time just as a book the next time with a highlighter as a manual for transformation. Not a single page doesn't have highlighting and notes on them. I can't say enough about how much better that I feel after working the Metabolic Effect (ME) Diet. I will continue to incorporate it into my daily lifestyle and recommend it to my friends and family. As a personal trainer and certified health coach I learned so very much from the book and incorporated it into my daily routine to check it out. Well I am all in this is a must have if you want to improve your life, lose weight and feel better. I highly recommend it!

I was not a fat kid growing up but later in life I started struggling with my weight after the birth of my first child and working long hours at a desk. My mother was one of those women who was always on the latest fad diet and I am determined not to follow in her footsteps. I first found this book in the public library and the title intrigued me. The "diet" in the book is not really a diet as much as it is a way of eating healthier and more efficient for your body type. I liked how the book helped me understand certain things that were slowing down my metabolism and I learned that some things that I thought were helpful in losing weight really were not. Best of all, the advice in this book is easy to follow and I was still able to eat what I wanted without feeling deprived. After following the advice in this book over a few months, I lost a significant amount of weight without even exercising but then I had to stop because I became pregnant. I am about to have my baby so I purchased this book directly from Amazon instead of taking it out again from the library. I plan to resume the "diet" in this book to help me lose the post-pregnancy weight and there is a lot of helpful information in the book that makes it worthy of keeping a copy on hand.
