Iggy and the Stooges - Live in Detroit

VERY COOL
If you are an Iggy Pop fan this is a must-have. Re-union show with alot of heart, energy, and spirit. At one point a super fan rushes the stage, and when security moves to remove him, Iggy says "No! Let him stay!" and before you know it half the audience is on the stage rocking with Iggy - happily, and without incident. Having just watched a video of the horror show that was Altamont, I was very happy to see that people could genuinely rock and roll without spiraling into mayhem. This video is a must for anyone who loves garage rock, punk rock, roots rock, or raw mississippi delta blues. Bonus footage of an afternoon gig at a local record store (drummer was playing a cardboard box? as I recall) was a real testament to the REAL roots of rock and roll.

You need this dvd.
Reunions suck. Always. They are usually for nostalgia only. Fun, but not essential. This is the exception. Iggy is loud, wild, aggressive, and the Ashetons (along with Mike Watt) groove like it's 1969 all over again. This performance is not just a novel reunion, it is top notch. It's no coincidence this show was rated as one of the best concerts of 2003. I've read the complaints about how this dvd was filmed. Well, I suppose if you like fast edits, effects, and an abundance of crowd shots, this video is not for you. It does not look like mtv. At the same time, the quality of the footage is high. The cameras roll, the band plays, and you get to see how it actually went down. Generous bonus footage as well.

Amazing concert, disappointing video photography.
This concert has many good songs, the audio is amazing (even the DTS format is included for this video), but the photography is really terrible. Sometimes Iggy disappears in the darkness and the whole video shows images in sephia. The concert has good songs, my favorite part of this video is when part of the crowd is invited by Iggy to dance "No Fun" on stage, the things go bad and at the end the microphone is stolen from Iggy. The sound is great, when a first uncovered the DVD, I thought it would sound terrible, but it really amazed me.

Don't Sweat The Lighting!
I've read a few reviews of this DVD that complain about the lighting. Iggy does wind up in the shadows from time to time during this performance. Personally, I thought it only added to the excitement. I think this DVD is an essential for any Iggy fan if only for the audio. If your a Iggy Pop fan like me, you probubly have some of those "other" Iggy CDs or vinyls in your collection (you know, inspired performances but bootleg quality sound). The audio portion of this DVD is a suitible replacement!

Stooges Reunion live in Detroit
This was a present for my sister as we grew up in Detroit back in the 60's and Iggy and the Stooges were a fixture on the scene. This was shortly before Ron Ashton passed on and he was really ripping on the guitar. Iggy is, well POP, as always. Great show highly commend...just about every great song the Stooges ever did, excellent hometown crowd.

Triumphant
I'm not usually a fan of "live" CDs or DVDs, because they don't feel live and the songs are poorly done, but with this DVD, you feel like you're there. This isn't a nostalgia tour, but rather a renaissance for Iggy & the Stooges. Amazingly, most of the renditions here are BETTER than the original studio versions ("Dirt" and "No Fun," with audience participation, are standouts).

i agree, this performance / dvd ROCKS !!!
picture quality is not the best, but acceptable .... shot on video ....... BUT the sound is FANTASTIC ....... i'm just BLASTING it in 5.1 dolby digital (there is a dolby stereo AND 5.1 DTS mix as well) ....... all the instruments are well defined and there is plenty of rumble from mike watt's bass ......... the brothers asheton are total monsters .... real magic there ....... and iggy is out of control ....... the record store performance in the extra features is great too ....... a full show in and of itself .....so awesome to have a modern live recording of all these songs ....... as great as those first 2 stooges albums are ...... you REALLY get the live bombastic sonic experience with this dvd ....... just CRANK it !!!BEST concert dvd i've seen / heard in a very long time ....... and no one rocks like the stooges !!RIP Ron , thanks for all those riffs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
