Pokemon X (Nintendo 3DS)

This blows the earlier Pokemon games right out of the water!! I cannot bring myself to say just how awesome this game is. Nintendo and Game Freak have really outdone themselves on this one. The graphics are beautiful; it's Nintendo so pixels are not a priority but the overall charm and aesthetic feel of the game is superb. There are some stunning locations, such as the 3D cave with blue stalactites. Pikachu is available early on in the game as well as a Kanto starter of your choice. Pokemon Amie lets you build bonds with your Pokemon that help them dodge attacks, cure themselves of status conditions, and gain more experience. Super Training is something I don't play with too much, it's more for the serious gamers who care about EV's and things. But I did train my Vaporeon that way once and it's special attack at Lv. 100 went through the roof! And with Mega Evolutions (which can completely turn the tide of battles, both in game and online) the battle dynamics have been made more complex and more interesting. The online features are a blessing. No longer do you have to go into those silly portals in the Pokemon Centre every time you want to trade or battle someone- you can interact with everyone who's online. I also like the fact that you can now choose a darker skinned sprite, which feels more inclusive. The storyline is mediocre but let's be honest, the perks of a Pokemon game isn't really its plot. Possibly the only downside is the lack of post- game content. Once you defeat the League there's not much to be done except more battling, collecting Mega Stones, etc. It's not like the post game content of White 2, which was more satisfying. Lumiose City can also be a little hard to navigate, and I don't know if I'd count this as a negative but it's so easy to spend all your money on clothes! Overall, though, this is an excellent entry into Generation 6. It's clear that they've put more effort than ever before into making Pokemon feel new and exciting again, and it pays off.

I'm writing a review as an excuse to tear myself away from this thing. It's frighteningly addictive. I've played it for 38 hours since I got it just 2 and a half days ago. I've been totally addicted to Pokemon since 1st generation (I collect all manner of poke-junk, especially Zukan figures, and have thrown thousands at the cards down the years). I was ALMOST of a mind not to get this generation, because it meant buying yet another DS (this time a 3DS XL) just to play it on.... but thankfully I did. I am seriously impressed with most of this. The main plus is the look of it. It looks just stunning, especially in 3D on an XL. Old pokemon literally come alive (Mr Mime is amazing!). The new pokemon are a mixed bag. Some great (the water starter 2nd evo), some truly awful (Binacle and that bunny with the fists on its ears). The game play is basically... erm.... "familiar". Same old story, just tweaked for the new generation. They always stick to it, every generation. But that's ok. Because it works. There are SO MANY pokemon available in this... I'm only on my 6th badge and I've already caught about 220 species? There are a few negatives, I have to admit. The game mechanics have been dumbed down, and the worst thing is the new GTS (global trade station) where you can seek or ask for ANYTHING (you don't have to have seen it.) In theory you could camp out once you find the day-care, breed starters and GTS trade your way to a complete pokedex. The game wasn't challenging enough... this makes it less so. I also don't like the endless "other" parts... the dressing up, dancing, mini-games, baking cup-cake, poodle-clipping silly nonsense that has become so vast and confusing... I steer clear of most of it. Ok, I need to grab a couple of hours before I'm up again to water my berry bushes...

Great game, Nintendo and Gamefreak really came together to produce a completely different Pokemon game this time, the 3D models of the pokemon as well as all of the ability animations look amazing, they have really brought to life the world of pokemon. There is so many more things to do with the addition of Pokemon-Amie you can pet and play with your pokemon similar to playing with your dog in Nintendogs! It's fun for casual players and children but also brilliant for the more competitive players bringing new movesets and the new fairy typing really mixes things up. The new pokemon themselves are some of the best and a lot of them can really pull their weight competitive wise. The new power training regime system allows for some diversity in EV training pokemon making it more enjoyable and also offers rewards such as evolutionary stones. Great buy for any pokemon players. I also prefer X over Y due to the colour scheme, the fact that Xerneas is the new fairy type and has awesome stats as well as great moves and also as you can catch Lairon for Aggron in it. The addition of mega evolution has had a large impact on the game also and can be a lot of fun to do. Mewtwo X is hella strong son. dat psycho cut stab with the highest Attack in the game and high crit chance 2 gud. p.s. Furfrou is a god

Pokemon Y is a great game overall. It's fun, it's addicting and rewarding. You can connect to people all around the World to trade, have battles with or maybe become friends! Not going to lie, this is my first ever Pokemon game, and I'm 23 years old. This game was the reason I bought the 3ds XL, and haven't had this much fun with a game since Skyrim! I finished the main quest in 72 hrs, mind you I did train a lot in that time, so I can imagine it can be finished a bit sooner tho, but where would be the fun in that? it's also great that you can claim a Pokemon if you buy the game new; one that you cannot catch in the game. It's also great that you can customise your appearance, and just go around the towns and fields whenever you want and to just look around. It's not complicated at all; all ages could play with this game easily, even if you haven't played any Pokemon games before! My boyfriend did say that it resembles greatly the previous games and they kept many things fans loved about it, just upgraded it to the next level finally! There are a few downsides tho...The game only allows one save-game at a time, meaning if you have a brother-sister-friend who wants to try it out, unfortunately they can't. I think it's something that should have been allowed, because let's face it, who would buy two consoles so both their kids could play Pokemon? That is a bit inconvenient in my opinion. Another minor thing is, that you have to have a hat on your character at all times! I personally don't like it, but honestly, this is such a small thing, it doesn't matter or effect the game at all! This is a great game overall, probably one of the best of 2013!

I'll start off by saying I've played every single pokemon game and I have played them since they first came out. With pokemon black and white being my least favourites I was really hoping this game would reignite my love for the franchise. It did just that. Firstly I'd like to say the 3D was just right for me. I know its an issue some people have complained about but for me it has just the right amount. It's in all the major bits like evolutions, gym battles and of course the meeting with the legendary pokemon. I personally don't like the games where there is constant use of the 3D I feel to have to turn it off to rest my eyes more. Secondly the little details like being able to move in all directions and personalising your character make a big difference in a game like this. These little touches make the game feel like your pokemon x will be completely to your friends! I also like that they've added the GTS to main menu so you can access it from anywhere. They've also added a feature called wonder trade where you select a pokemon and trade for a completely random pokemon which is always a nice surprise. Thirdly this is the first storyline for a while that I've really enjoyed and I really loved the villains. I feel like I spent a lot of time playing the main story so I was really pleased and felt like I'd got my money's worth. There's also loads to do after you've finished the game as well to keep you going. Finally I've come to the one and only con about the game which is also the reason why it has 4 stars and not 5. I was really disappointed to find that you can't complete the national pokedex as of yet. I completed the regional one thinking something would be unlocked that would allow all these 2nd & 3rd gen pokemon I hadn't seen yet to appear. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and instead I read up that we have to wait until December for the pokemon bank to come out which we also have to pay for. Luckily there's a free trial for a month so if you're quick enough and spend a lot of time on it you should be able to complete the pokedex. Overall for anyone who's sitting on the fence I'd say buy it as it will give you hours of fun!

Would just like to say that so far this game has been amazing. I have 7 badges and can't put it down. As a kid red and blue were games I couldn't put down and are 2 of the best games I have ever played. All the others have been great but never captured the same magic for me. X and Y however have made this game very enjoyable and have so many awesome changes to really push for being the greatest pokemon game I have played. I admit with pokemon I usually train up 1 or 2 pokemon at most throughout the story, but the new ex share has made me train a full party so far and is an amazing feature. Being able to have a new and orignial starter, as well as torchic is fantastic, as well as a good balance of new and old pokemon to find early on is a plus in my books. Catching a pikachu near the start just like the original as well as other small things they have thrown in makes are all positives. I have no real issues so far with this game besides pokemon trainers you battle are still quite stupid and easy to beat, and I would like a more in depth story to the game but I can easily say its a 9/10!

It's been years since I've last played a Pokemon game, but upon seeing multiple reviews and having already decided to buy a 3DS as a shared present I decided to add it to my order. I'm no where near completing it, though to be fair I do tend to take my time about it and as its shared, don't get as much gameplay as I might normally. All the same, there is a lot to do in this game, including customization of your character for the first time, discovering the multiple new Pokemon as well as the new Kalos region, exploring the new functions and activities available in game, such as riding Pokemon, raising a garden as well as many of the features we've become familiar with. Also worth a mention are the new side games available within, Pokemon Aimee which is a system similar in style to the tamagotchi, whereby you play with your pet, feed it and decorate its environment, there is also super training which is handy as it helps to boost your pokemons specific stats through a mini game system. Small additional programs but entertaining and useful. There truly is so much to say about this game, and both myself and my young niece are enjoying it. And,of course, like most pokemon games, even once you've finished the set story/adventure, you still have plenty left to do,

i was sceptical about buying it, iv not been any ware near impressed with the last pokemon games (I actually refused to play black/white 2 as i found the first SO bad!) but my mates bugged me, and bits and pieces i read on the internet made me thing i should give it another go. and I'm SO glad i did iv bearly put it down since iv got it, i love the new features :) and the setting and design is gorgeous for 3DS, and that they brought back a lot of the old pokemon makes me happy. So far, the new ones iv seen don't such badly in design. as I'm not too far into the story, but I'm deffinily getting their, but the story feels a little forced, like their little substance to it, like 'omg we just met now we are bests!"? but that just my opinion, and its pokemon made for children, and like pokemon :P, so i not really going to make that against the game, story still makes me want to keep playing :). it a good pokemon game to have and it gives me some hope for the series definilly buy if you like pokemon
