An excellent adapter that breathes new life into your iPod sound dock!
I submit this review fully aware of the number of 1 and 2-star reviews posted and duly note the general theme of users having generally had good performance for a while before running into issues. I have been using the Layen I-dock Bluetooth 4.1 adapter for a few weeks now so cannot comment on Longevity. What I can comment on is ease of use and the sound quality from my Bose Ipod dock which is excellent! The adapter means I can now use my iPhone or laptop to stream music from my iTunes library easily without having to sync my iPod first. Set up was straightforward and repeat connection has been particularly fast and reliable. I have to say, so far, the adapter does what it is supposed to, and does it well and I am rather hard pushed to find fault. The range is very good and many are the times I have been caught out by this, when I have been in a different room and forgotten my iPhone is still connected. I play back a sound (usually some WhatsApp attachment) on my phone only to hear the sound coming from the dock in the other room! The adapter does have a minor con (not a flaw) and that is the flashing blue light at night when I can't be bothered to unplug it (I leave it plugged in) or switch off the dock at the mains. It is quite bright and can be distracting, especially if it reflects off the ceiling, but I am not going to deduct a star for that - this time. All said, this is a very good product and notwithstanding longevity comments raised by others shall certainly be looking out for Layen products. Based on my limited use so far, I am recommending this product!

Excellent Bluetooth connector to Bose Soundock
Excellent item, took less than 5 minutes from plugging it in to working , sound quality is excellent and brought new life to a Bose Soundock 11, that was rarely used . Much more convenient using Bluetooth which connected first time and easy to use, than the old cable connector . Hope it keeps working for a long time

Brilliant 30 pin speaker adapter
This works brilliantly with my Altec Lansing iPod speaker. Connects instantly and music sounds as good as when an iPod is connected to the speaker.

Great, if it doesn't blow up you SoundDock!
I've been using a Bose SoundLink Mini II for streaming during lockdown and rediscovered the joy of regularly listening to music. Having seen an advert for these Layen Bluetooth devices I thought it would be great to refresh my old Bose SoundDock 1 (Type A) with Bluetooth so I can stream to that too rather than the faff of using an early iPod. I received the BS-1 next day, thanks to Prime, and enthusiastically prepared to install it. The SoundDock was definitely working as I played a song from the iPod before I removed it to make way for the BS-1. Following the Layen instructions I inserted the BS-1 with the SoundDock switched ON. The blue LED on the BS-1 flashed, I held the button and performed the pairing with my iPad with ease. I got a solid Bluetooth connection and everything looked sweet, ready to play some sounds. I spun up Amazon Music and started a track playing but complete SILENCE from the SoundDock. I tried everything, including removing the BS-1 and reverting back to the iPod, which charged fine on the SoundDock, but no sound was to be heard. I emailed Layen and got a fairly curt reply telling me that my SoundDock was faulty and no way could the BS-1 have caused any damage ["Our receivers are only circuit boards, they have no power capacity themselves and do not send any back to the stereo, they only receive the docks power through the pins and run it through the circuit board. It’s not possible for them to do this (we have vast experience - we have sold hundreds of thousands over the past 9 years) "]. Of course not having "power capacity" doesn't prevent the Docks own power being routed back into it in an inappropriate way by the BS-1 so this explanation / excuse is rather disingenuous. After some Googling I surmised that the DSP board in my SoundDock was most likely damaged so I took a punt and bought a replacement PCB off eBay. Having fitted that my SoundDock was working with my iPod again. With great trepidation I decided to try the Layen BS-1 one more time. This time rather than follow the Layen instructions I installed the BS-1 with the SoundDock switched OFF at the mains. This time success! The sound quality seems good and I like that the remote control still works so I can change volume, skip tracks etc. Understandably I have mixed feelings, maybe it was pure coincidence, but there's no need to insert the BS-1 with the SoundDock powered-on so why tell people to do this and take an unnecessary risk. Overall it seems good kit but do be careful during installation.

SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE
I am so pleased with this unit, it worked straight away pairing easily with my phone and tablet. It's so simple to set up, even a pensioner could do it !!!! Out of the box, plug it into the iPod Dock 30 Pin port and it immediately started looking for BlueTooth devices. My phone was also visible and it paired almost instantly. The sound was great too although with no music playing, it is possible to hear the data transfer noises made by my phone. To be fair though, that my be the fault of my phone so I haven't marked it down for that. I easily paired it to a second device. Simply press and hold the button on the left side of the LAYEN iDOCK adaptor until the blue light blinks quickly, it is then visible to other devices. It is definitely a worthwhile upgrade to give the old iPod Dock, which doesn't have an auxiliary socket or any other form of imput, a new lease of life. I'm guessing that it will even make it possible to connect this old, but great, sound system to a new Alexa or similar BlueTooth device.

Works Well on Hitachi AXM204UK
Very happy to find that this worked for my Hitachi AXM204UK, even though it wasn't listed. Nice, neat little device that just slots in to place and almost looks like part of the sound system. Instructions were clear, but it was so easy to pair you probably won't even need them. Sound came through well too - overall just really happy this worked out so well.

Amazon, it's story time. Once upon a time there was a young man named Jimmy Pops. He had a nice little setup with his 4th generation iPod Touch and his Altec Lansing imt800 Boomboox. One day, Jimmy Pops dropped his iPod touch right on the pavement of his local Planet Fitness Parking lot. Upon purchasing a new iPod Touch, he discovered that Apple changed the stupid connectors from the 30 Pin to the Lightning Adapter. Alright so being serious now, I was in no mood to cough up another couple hundred bucks for another sound system. Everything always has to change doesn't it? A new connector type, a new cable needed, it's never easy; at least not until I discovered this thing. This Layen i-Dock allows you to immediately turn any "obsolete" sound dock system into a wireless Bluetooth speaker compatible with any device that has Bluetooth. This forty buck gem will save you from having to buy another sound dock more or less ever so long as the dock itself continues to function and you continue to like the sound it has. The device itself is pretty much what you see in the picture. It's a matte black device that has a 30 Pin connector on the bottom. It has a small button on the top to initialize the Bluetooth search to connect to a device and a little blue light to let you know it's either searching (very fast blink) or active (slower blink). The blue light, while nice to know it's operational, is a bit of a con for me. I have my sound system in my room so when I go to bed, if I leave the Layen connected to my Altec Lansing there's a pretty bright blue light that doesn't stop blinking as the light will blink so long as it's plugged in. It's a simple fix though. Unplug it. I really can't justify taking off a star for laziness. Sound quality over the Layen is fantastic. Does my iPod sound better than it would if it were plugged in directly? Probably not, but the difference is so indiscernible to be honest I'm not sure I could tell the difference. What I will say in regards to sound quality is that over Bluetooth there's a lot of volume loss; you either need to crank the iPod or the sound dock it's wirelessly hooked up to. Once you find the right combination that floats your boat however, it sounds great. Plus I'm willing to make some sacrifices for the wireless capabilities. It's so nice to be able to walk around my room and play music from wherever I'm at. I am sure this will be nice for when I'm...you know what never mind. This adapter is a fantastic buy. Honestly, this is the best forty bucks I've spent in a long time. I'm thrilled with the Layen. It works well, it looks pretty inconspicuous, and it gives me plenty of freedom. If you are looking to make your sound system wireless or need to compensate for a 30 Pin to Lightning discrepancy, the Layen will fit the bill great!

I love this product! It's truly a premium solution, with both form and function. It's a UK company, and is worth the extra money (over the generic chinese bluetooth iPod dock adapters.) It worked on my Sony CMT-BX20i, which the generic, "Smof" branded one didn't output any sound. The fit and finish is awesome. It feels like a quality product in the hands, has a nice matte black finish. It makes my stereo actually look better! The labelling (how it says Layen I-Sync) on it is tasteful and makes it clear to anyone what it is. It connected to my phone without a fuss (just have to know to hold the side button to get it to appear while pairing, read the manual) and has nice indicator beeps that aren't intrusive to let you know the status of the device. The sound quality is crystal clear as far as I can tell, and I have no complaints ! Thanks so much for making this product and caring about making a good product, that actually works and looks good.
