Informative book.
My 7 year old son wanted this book for his birthday. He has taken it out on our walks everywhere and has loved looking up plants and all sorts. It's given him great satisfaction and me greater knowledge!!!!! Slightly bigger than pocket size but isn't too big it can't be carried or tucked into a small bag.

Good comprehensive guide
Excellent book with brief but comprehensive guide and good photos. It’s been really helpful for my new lockdown hobby of identifying wildlife, a little on the heavy side to carry round especially if added to the weight of a large camera, lenses and water bottles etc but I just take photos and identify when I get home

NOT IMPRESSED
I am very disappointed with the content of this book. Whilst I do not expect that every bit of British Wildlife would be included, I would have expected more than 4 of our many bee species to be in here and no mention at all of hoverflies. I didn't get much further as I was trying to identify a flying insect that turned out to be a bee minic but that wasn't in their either. I think it's too much to ask for everything to be in there so maybe separate books for wild flowers and insects would be more useful. It's going back to Amazon tomorrow

very useful
This is a great little reference book, which covers a good range of flora and fauna. I’m clueless about trees and plants so this is easy to find some relevant info quickly. I wish there had been a digital version really, as it would have been a real boon to have the info on my phone. Instead, I just take a quick photo with my phone and look it up when I return home

Comprehensive,concise guide to British Wildlife.
This book is an extremely comprehensive introduction to almost the full range of British Flora and Fauna that anyone could expect to meet,on walks, trips to the coast, parks,or even one's own garden. As the sub title explains,it's first and foremost a photographic guide (and the photos contained within are very good). Each photograph has a short descriptive paragraph, and together, they should enable the reader to identify that Plant or animal that has piqued their interest.Paul Sterry seems to be a very able natural History photographer and a keen communicator.I haven't seen a better overall survey of British Wildlife for the general reader.

Terrific general guide
We've loved this book for years, and our copy of the original edition is now more or less in pieces through overuse and the grandchildren squabbling over it in the back of the car. We had to buy them a new copy for their parents' car, and now the time has come to buy a new version to replace our beaten-up copy.

An excellent beginners identification guide to British Wildlife
This book is a must have for the nature enthusiast wanting to know just what that plant or animal they just saw is.Given the scope, its very basic and is not as comprehensive as other titles in the series such as British insects ( Collins Complete Guide - British Insects: A photographic guide to every common species ) and British Wildflowers ( Collins Complete Guide - British Wild Flowers: A photographic guide to every common species ), but it is a very good starting point, to test the water and see how you get on.It also makes an ideal gift for the budding nature enthusiast. I myself received several copies whilst studying an environmental degree, and passed them on to friends and family, who loved them.I should say it's quite a lazy identification guide, in that it's very easy to get in to the routine of flicking through the pictures and then stopping when you find a photo that "looks right". However the more comprehensive guides for advanced users do tend to be more specific, covering only animals, insects, plants, trees etc.

once bought buy another, I have purchased this for myself and for a friends child also, and when mine wears out I will buy another, I am not a fan of these very small reference books (Collins little gems) as my eyesight is not what it was, there is a whole range of these and I have most, They are worth every penny and I will continue to get the rest of the range, very informative and good pictures Not so big as to be inconvenient and look good on the bookshelf as a set, recommended
