White Candy Sticks, 1Kg

These were and still are my favourite childhood candy. Extremely hard to find in the shops so I was delighted to see they were available here. I really struggled not to order the 2.5 kg bag because I would have put myself into a diabetic coma! They arrived well packed and a day early. Taste exactly as they should, not too hard and not too soft. Will have to ration these but I will definitely order again. Update: My first bag went in a week because I constantly dipped into the bag! Had to order another bag which has now arrived. Really hard not to keep dipping in the bag but going to have to try and discipline myself! Update: Had to order another bag. Was due to arrive on 23rd February but came on 15th! Great service.

These are exactly the gene-strong later generations candy sticks of my youth (perhaps they are a very little shorter, although I am a very little taller now)! Many reviews mention they're far too soft, almost greasy or mushy in texture. Alas, these reviews are written by folk who have hazier memories than they ought to. Those of us who remember buying a quarter from our local newsagents as children, ought to remember that they were stored and poured from tall jars which allowed the sticks room to breathe (and possibly party during closing hours). It is this air space that brings these candy sticks back to the consistency that we so fondly remember. That change in texture also slightly changes the flavour to a little less sicky sweet (much as the shape of chocolate affects its flavour due to speed of meltage, too). Although, if you eat too many (guilty) at once, it won't matter how hard or soft they are, ha ha! Stricter regulations and modern day costs of production mean we now receive these little batons of nostalgic joy in sealed plastic bags, so when you receive yours, I suggest you immediately open the bag and transfer them into a jar or box that will allow for circulation. I left mine out to air for a while, in hopes that it would help the oozy softness, which is how I worked out what was wrong. Dry them out a little, store correctly, and you will be taken back to days when penny and half penny sweets still existed, and not only was a Finger of Fudge good enough to give kids a treat, but so were glorious candy sticks. Do not frown upon these dear little sweeties, they only weep themselves into softness at the bad reviews left for them, in which they are castigated over the transportation vehicle chosen for them by their overlords. Poor things. Please, end their suffering by ordering and correctly storing, for in doing so, you will bring yourself great delights. I've ordered another bag. :o)

So I’ve purchased two of these now and my review is based of this single purchase but I thought I’d make you aware that my first lot was completely different taste and texture/softness to these. I brought my first pack at the beginning of the year and they were rock hard and I threw the bag away as they weren’t enjoyable. Upon craving these the other day I decided to give them another go. The batch I received this week are completely opposite and taste delicious, every member of my household have enjoyed them, I do like my candy sticks soft in texture. So overall they are great but it appears the batches are consistent.

These sweets are delicious. They are just like when I was a child. I used to love a mix up and a packet of candy cigarettes. I would buy again.

The picture shows the Barratt box of sweet cigarettes or sticks. What was received was a plastic bag full of broken bits, very soft, very sweet and not at all what washing. Waste of money!! Overpriced and under delivered. Never again, stay clear.

I was hoping for proper hard candy sticks but the ones that arrived are very soft and a bit mushy, they are edible but not what I thought they would be.

When the items arrives nice and soft you know they are fresh. Have bought 2 of these so far and are going to buy a 3rd very soon. Be careful though because there are some buying options (1kg, 2kg & 3kg). If you choose the 3kg option it shows that the bag size is 2.5kg not 3kg. As the price is the same you're better off buying 3 * 1kg bags as you get that extra 1/2kg for the same price as a bag of 2.5kg. The bag they arrive in is just one of those Tesco zip bags and not sealed. Not good when the postman leaves it outside the door on an ants nest like in my case. UPDATE: Bought a 3rd 1kg bag from 'Top Brand Discounts 4 u' and what can I say except the box they arrived in was open and a 2 year old child could have packaged it better. Took photos and sent them to the seller who said boxes come undone in the post. That's rubbish when you don't actually tape the top or the side of the box in the first place it is never closed. I personally would never ever buy from 'Top Brand Discounts 4 u' again!!!

This brings back k memories to my childhood. The flavour is exactly what I expected and they are really nice
