Q: Can I use it with plastic rail too

Sorry I dont know, but I wouldn't think so. It has thick wooden tracks which join the wooden track system of Brio and all other wooden tracks. They slot together like a wooden jigsaw puzzle, so I can't imagine plastic would have the same depth to join on.

Q: Are the wooden rails removable? We've got a couple of bridges that the tracks tend to fall out of.

No, the rails are not removeable. The bridge is secure with fixed sturdy sides and has a gap each side for the other track to rest on which further secures the track connection to the bridge. Very happy with ours and my boys have had it for 2+ years and is still strong and sturdy. No risk of track falling out 👌🏾 Brio as a brand Is quality

Our wooden Thomas trains do go under the bridge, but with only millimetres to spare. My two year old son loves it.
