Good turntable from Wilton
Great turntable but I do worry that it is not sturdy enough for the rigours of cake decorating. Needs a weight inside so it sits still on your countertop.

Do not buy
Poor quality plastic. Does not turn smoothly, bumps up and down. Not fit for purpose.

Wilton Cake Decorating Turntable
This is a basic cake decorating turntable ( 12 inches / 30.4cm) which is all I need. If you're happy to turn a cake slowly to decorate it and take your time - I think you'll be happy with this. I've just started baking with my daughter and generally we're happy if what we bake is edible, so this turntable is ideal for us as beginning bakers. It is low (rather than being on a stand it's pretty much level with the table you're working on) when baking with my daughter I'm sitting down a lot so it's at a better level to use - it's also easier for her to work with. If I was working on my own I'd probably be standing so would have to stoop a little to use it, which would be more of an issue. We won't be baking and decorating heavy fruit cakes because previous experience suggests they'll only end up in the bin but I don't think this is designed to take a lot of weight.Overall - it's right for us at the moment, but before buying I'd consider your skill level and what you're intending to use it for.

Wilton Cake Decorating Turntable
I have never used a cake turntable before, but suspect, from a little research, that this is more suitable for beginners, such as myself, than those bakers who have more advanced projects planned. There is no stand and the turntable stands close to the counter top. This didn't wobble with the cupcakes I was decorating, with my daughter, but I suspect it might not move as smoothly with a very heavy cake. I did place a heavier, fruit cake, on the stand and, as I suspected, it was not quite as smooth. You can take this apart if you need to do a deep clean and, otherwise, it is easy enough to clean. My daughter is a keen baker and this is just the right height for her, although I would probably have preferred something a little higher. Overall, ideal for the amateur baker and perfect if baking with children - although younger children will probably be keener to whizz the base round and forget the cake decorating!

Great for sponges, OK for heavy cakes, but not fast turning
I tried this out on a sponge cake I had (already decorated), it spun around fine and would have been helpful yesterday when I decorated it. I then tried it out on my heavy Christmas cake on it to see if it would spin as freely it was OK, but you could feel the weight on the bearings underneath. If you try to spin it too fast it will start to wobble. That isn't an issue for me, but if you are a fast decorator or you need to spin faster for a particular effect then it could be a problem. The parts separate (a little fiddly) to facilitate a deep clean, the bearings are mounted in a plastic disk, so they don't run away. Instructions are not to submerge in water, so this isn't dishwasher safe.I like it and it make decorating a little easier than turning the cake on the counter top. At the current price of £10.49, I am not too convinced that it is good value for money for something that is plastic

Quite disappointing and overpriced for what it is…
I always wanted one of those to make my cake decorating easier and smoother. I could, of course, use our wooden lazy Suzan and sometimes I do, but this seemed like a better, more professional option.Unfortunately, this is not the product I dreamed off. Despite the Wilton name it is very cheaply made, completely out of plastic. There are 4 tiny metal balls in between the two layers of plastic that scrape one another (image of the “mechanism” included). The movement is not smooth at all and it makes a horrible sound. Also, the whole thing is very low. If you would be seating to decorate the cake you have to still bend down and because it is very low (3 cm height) it restricts hand movement so even if the turntable would be working smoothing (and is not), it would be difficult to work on it. About 10-12 cm height would be ideal, 3 cm not so much.I would expect this quality from the £1 type of store but not from well known and respected brand that sells it for over £10.On the positive note, the turntable has rubbery feet to prevent it from moving and the non-slip top surface. It looks rather pretty as well, it’s a pity it is not very practical in use.

Better than nothing. But not great either. Good for occasional use
I've decorated many birthday cakes especially with buttercream including Katherine Sabbath style drip cakes and ombré effect cakes on my countertop which was not easy, I tried my mums old cheapy turntable which was basically the thinnest piece of metal in the world balanced on a metal cup which wobbled and scratched the counters. This is better than than the wobbly metal thing and is definitely easier than twisting the cake board round by yourself on the side, but it's not perfect. The flatness of the turntable is good for stability if you are anxious or having children assist, but having the cake elevated makes it easier to see and access any issues as you smooth or decorate it so it's a shame this is so flat. Also the way it works and is fit together means it's difficult to turn a heavier cake whether by the density of the mix (fruit, mud compared to sponge or Genoese etc) or as we often do to make a small cake more spectacular use lots of layers like an ombré or rainbow cake.I think this is fine if you're going to perhaps decorate one or two sponge style cakes a year (birthdays etc) and want something to make it easier to get a smooth finish (move the cake not your palette knife kind of thing) but don't need or have the space for anything more professional. If you intend on using it for heavier cakes or for regular hobby or catering use I would say no spend your money more wisely.
