Connects to strongest signal (2.4GHz) not fastest channel (5GHz).
I bought this gadget as my Desktop online gaming PC has ended up a long way from my new Sky modem in my new house so the signal strength was poor. Other reviewers reported they got a good signal out of it when their PC was a long way from their modem. True after setting it up using the software disc enclosed I did.The other, and main reason I purchased this was to convert my PC's wireless from running at 2.4GHz to 5GHz.The Sky Modem broadcasts at both speeds to accommodate newer devices that use 5GHz and older devices that use 2.4GHz. This device does not appear to connect to the faster 5ghz channel on modem when the 2.4ghz channel has the stronger signal. It will connect to the 5GHz channel but I had to manually go into the Modem's settings and disable its 2.4GHz channel to 'force' the adapter to only log on with the 5GHz channel. My lag issues cleared up, but I was getting a poor, but good enough signal strength. With both channels active, I was getting the same lag issues as I was before I installed this gadget when I was running on my old PC's wireless of 2.4GHz, but a lot stronger signal. This is what told me the device was logging onto the stronger 2.4GHz signal. This would also mean that every time I wanted to get the adapter to run at 5GHz, I would have to manually go into my Modem's settings and disable its 2.4GHz channel, which is very inconvenient as I would then have to re-enable the 2.4GHz channel after my gaming session due to my older wireless devices still requiring the 2.4GHz channel. Also inconvenient if you've a family trying to use the modem. Doesn't effect me as I live alone, but I would still have to keep switching the channels on and off manually. So due to no improvement in speed, I ended up returning the device. Would have been better if the manufacturers had made this device select the 5GHz channel despite the 2.4GHz channel being a stronger signal, after all, I wouldn't buy something like this just to gain the same speed performance of 2.4GHz as I was already getting from my PC's old internal wireless adapter. So despite trying to get it to connect to the 5GHz channel all by itself, I have now given up and returned it.

Foktech WiFi dongle
Initially I tried a Netgear dongle because it has very small footprint. But as it is small its aerial is small too, its range and signal quality is only good for close range to the WiFi router. It didn't work in my case at all.Foktech dongle on the other hand has long aerial. It sticks out at the back of a PC, which in practical terms, is irrelevant as it is at the back and is pretty much invisible. Black PC, on its back, black aerial, you get the point. I have never heard of Foktech before but price was good, it has an outside aerial, so I gave it a go. When it arrived I have gone through simple installation guide and set it up on my PC, It worked the treat. It is stable, doesn't drop connection, switches channel as required to keep the best signal quality and it is always on. Happy days.I also should mention, that my router is across the house and one floor up from my PC, it is roughly 15 m away but with obstruction of walls and ceiling. The router is not the best, as it is at the mid-end on the consumer range, one of those the Broadband providers deliver with service. It runs only 2.4 GHz, no ac, so my Foktech dongle doesn't even works to its full capability :) If you get one yourself, I think it will make you happy too.

Quick and easy WiFi connection with optional hotspot
I needed to add a WiFi facility to my desktop and this proved ideal for my purpose. The dongle comes in a bubble pack, the only assembly required is to screw the antenna into the USB dongle. It was quick and easy to install under Win10. No need to use the supplied drivers disc as my desktop was already connected to the Internet. Win 10 had found the appropiate driver and completed the install before I even had time to open to open its settings utility so I had near instant access to my home WiFi network. The bonus I discovered is that dongle can also be used to share the host device's network connection with upto 8 other devices via a 2.4GHz hotspot that delivered a reasonable 44mbps download speed. Overall this device delivers what I reckon to be very good value for money.

Works just as good as a Wifi card
If you have the spare USB slots and not intrested in getting a Wifi card for your machine, I'd highly recommend this dongle. I veered away from buying a wifi card as my Setup seemed to clash with many cards and would possibly not work. Instead I decided to go with a Wifi dongle and it has been a much better choice as it's cheaper and it gains a decent upload and download speed. I am able to watch Netflix or YouTube at the same time whilst playing online games, I haven't experienced a single drop out since I've plugged it in (used for the past 4 months). It's relatively easy to install, I will note that because I didn't have a disc drive on my PC, I had to download the drivers from my laptop which already had wifi connection and transfer it over on a memory stick. So keep that in mind if you don't have a Disc drive. the connection seems great, my PC is upstairs on the other side of the house from where the modem (Standard BT Modem) is, so I've never struggled to pick up a connection.

Absolutely brilliant! Best £14 I've spent in yonks!
The WiFi card in my 2011 Mac Mini has been wobbly for months, but in the last week has cratered. Speeds of less than 1Mbs, if it can connect at all. With this dongle plugged into the back, I get close to 10Mbs, which alone would be a massive improvement.Even better though, I dug out a 3m USB extension cable (male at one end, female the other) and plugged the male end into the back of my Mac, and the dongle into the female end. A bit of experimenting, and I now have the dongle end taped onto the far corner of my very full desk (mac, laptop, 3 large external monitors between them) about 2m away, and am getting 25 - 30Mbs! Lots of concrete walls between the router and this room. Max speed right next to the router is 50Mbs. Ordered last night on Amazon Prime, arrived before 2pm today. This has breathed new life into an old computer (that still works extremely well otherwise), and saved me spending hundreds to replace it! Setup was really easy. Hope anybody reading this has similarly great results.
