Great value for money - more than I expected!
I have a fascination with the Titanic and recently attended an exhibition (my 3rd) and came across this memorabilia pack by accident and thought it would be a great companion to the books I already own, On opening the package, I was struck that it appeared "bursting at the seams" as there were so many items included. Very nostalgic, giving you a real sense of the time. There is a Passenger booklet, menus, memorial newspaper, music sheet, distress telegram, identity card, posters to mention a few and many picture cards. So much to read and look through. All for £6.40! So pleased with this purchase I have just ordered 2 more in the series!

A truly evocative glimpse into the past
I have been reading a number of books about or relating to The Titanic recently, but in spite of all the first hand accounts, it is difficult to get a personal sense of the ship, the sense of any sort of relationship with it. My background is in archaeology, and I like objects of everyday life that bring the nuts and bolts of an environment to life. This package does that to a great degree. Copies of menus, a letter written on Titanic letter-headed paper (dated 11th April 1912), a ticket to the ship's launch, an advert for the maiden voyage, another more poignantly advertising her return journey on Saturday April 20th, the official list of First Class passengers (a dizzying roll-call) which also has adverts for other White Star Line routes, the telegram that the Birma received notifying them that Titanic was sinking and requesting assistance, and a letter of condolence from the Dock, Wahrf, Riverside and Generel Workers' Union signed by Ben Tillett. Various other fascinating copies too, the best of which is a fold-out cut-away section of Olympic and Titanic that really helps to visualize the internal layout. I went slightly cold when I saw the 2nd class menu for the night of the sinking. There are photographs, which are less interesting as you can see them in most books about the ship, but they are a good selection, showing her at launch, with her sister Olympic, being led by tug boats out of Belfast, of her under steam, of the interior, of one of the collapsible lifeboats being rowed to Carpathia, and of Captain Edward Smith. Finally, there's a copy of the "Memorium Number" of the Daily Graphic, published on 20th April, by which time a lot of the facts had come in. It's a little over A4 sized and although the text is small, is completely legible with my reading glasses. the Daily Graphic is not the most analytic of newspaper publications, favouring emotion over actual analysis, but it is interesting reflection of the times.I am glad I bought the pack - it gives the sense of a living, breathing hotel on the sea, both exciting and functional. I might have given it 5 stars, and was still teetering on the edge when I started typing, but it gets 4 for the quality of the reproduction, which isn't bad, but isn't top rather either.
