Just plain cardboard. Didn't realise that all items to decorate them had to be purchased separately. This info was not made too obvious. It was for a child's party and I was disappointed and had to rush out to try and buy items to decorate them with.

I bought them for my grandchildren along with crowns and swords to keep them amused at a party. They loved them and the plan worked, no bored children and even a few occupied adults!!!! If I had any criticism it would be that the stick element wasn't strong enough to hold a heavily decorated star at top (we used plastic jewels). I had bought more than one pack so we doubled them up, but had we have used glitter and sticky shapes etc I am sure they would have been fine.

These were great, kids loved them, as mum and dad! We painted ours and put some jewels and sparkley bits on

Good material, nice for a party.
