How strong is the fixing on the handle and how excape proof is the top opening.

Mine was very escape proof as I tried to open the top opening the handles on the latches fell off so can not open it

It’s probably big enough for 2 cats but only short journeys. Our cat is a big lad at 6 kilo but has more that enough room.

I'm not sure,my Maine coon is just 7 months old & he just about fills it!I think in another 6 months he probably won't,but it is a good solid carrier & the top opening makes it easy to put your cat in!Simba likes it & walked in through the front door!
