Q: How much taller does just the padding without adding gel make you?

They have given you three gels that are individual at a quarter of an inch each. The suede one is also a quarter of an inch. I use them for comfort in my boots flip-flops. If you're looking for height only...I think about an inch is about all you're going to get if you stack all four pieces together.

Q: How do I keep from slipping in shoe?

Velcro is the answer to slippage. If you have leg length discrepancy you can gain height in two pairs of shoes with one purchase. I use Velcro dots whether putting the insert in the footbed or under a shoe's removable insole. Two or three dots spaced to mesh together really do the trick. Well worth putting them in every pair of shoes as opposed to moving them around.
