This remote is an enormous improvement over the original tiny trackpad remote. The original tiny remote is stylish but awful to use. This one still has a small trackpad for those that really like trackpads, but adds directional buttons that are so much easier (and more precise) to use. And, wonder of wonders, it also adds a power button so that you don’t have to have a PhD in computer science to figure out how to turn your box on and off. It’s very easy to pair too. Although they recommend that you hold the remote next to the Apple box, I accidentally paired mine by pushing the power button while about 15 feet from the box. It also automatically unpairs the old remote. All in all, a big improvement, and I’m sorry that I waited so long to get it. Yes, it’s stupidly expensive, but that’s Apple. If you’re still suffering with the original Siri remote, it’s well worth the expense to get this one.

I have the AppleTV 4K 1st Generation A1842 and thought my only hope of having a different genuine Apple Remote was to buy a new Apple TV unit one day. This product changed everything. Why Apple allowed that little black remote with awful touchpad to be produced is beyond me, arguably the worst thing to ever come from Apple is that little remote. This option is excellent, works flawlessly and feels more like a real remote control in your hands. If you love the touchpad from your original remote this one still has a similar feature with the circle pad but in so many different ways. Works almost like a click wheel where you can run your finger around clockwise to advance frames or counter clockwise to reverse/rewind. This feels better in my hands and has more weight to it as well as a more ergonomic feel thanks to the curved bottom. The buttons are stronger and give more of a click feel and, now you can turn off the unit without having to go into the menu and tell it to sleep. The latest version also charges via USB-C which is fine with me, but unless you have a charging cable already you’ll need to buy one because a charging cable is not included. This one does not charge with your lighting cable! I’ve heard there are some out there from the original replacement remote batch that did charge with a lightning cable but I can’t promise that. Very pleased with this remote, very happy that I didn’t have to buy a new AppleTV unit just to get a new remote.

This is a huge improvement over the original control. The original control was rediculous but this control connected easily and works flawlessly. It wqs worth the money

In a cleaning frenzy, I accidentally threw my Apple Remote away. $60 in the landfill. So I very reluctantly ordered a new one. I love the remote, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have spent $60 on a remote if I didn’t. But Apple needs to stop with the high prices because it has an Apple logo. This remote is a $40 remote to me. It’s high quality and convenient, but it’s a remote. The thing that gets me is that I couldn’t even try to just use my Apple Remote app on my iPhone because they got rid of the app and the new feature NEVER works right. Very convenient when you’re selling the physical version for $60…

Story is - my bride is pretty hard on remotes (drops them, falls asleep on 'em, and such). She finally trashed the Apple remote in the bedroom (hooked up an old Roku in the meantime). Ordered (and quicky rec'd) this remote. Charged up this puppy and paired to the bedroom Apple TV. Alas, her beloved streaming device was back in operation! All was cool (for about 2 weeks), when suddenly she lost volume control thru the Apple remote (factory TV remote controlled volume fine). After remote recharge, and many rebooks nothing changed. I took this new remote and re-paired to Apple TV in living room, and it works just fine (and has been since)! Took older living room remote and paired with bedroom unit - and it works fine now too! I've left 'em that way ever since. We decided we liked the more elegant unit in the living room. With the metallic casing, we think it has a more polished look - and with the newer button pad, guests figure out how the use it better (also love the dedicated power button). Also love being able to use the USB-C cable we charge our phone with when it needs some recharge volts. Overall QUITE NICE - justed wanted to share our story...

The is by far the best version/generation of Apple Remotes! It is more durable, still touch responsive (just within the circle) and has the added directional, mute and power buttons. Now you can power off your Apple TV instead of going to Settings and scrolling down. Not surprising, connection was a breeze. Took it out of the box, walked up to the Apple TV, held down the buttons instructed and done - it was paired. It was seriously under 30 secs. So very glad I got the brand name and not a knock off. I’ve had a few to get different features and Apple has now finally included them!
