Disappointed with Lancer Derma Cream
This cream was advertised as being an anti-wrinkle cream etc. I do not feel that it delivered the promised results. When I applied the cream it would sometimes peel off my face when I rubbed it on and in. I could not put this under my make-up either, for that reason, and for the price, I have used store creams w/better results. Thank you for your time. Debbie Conrad

Probably not for those currently going through professional skin treatments
Initially, I gave this Lancer product 4 stars, because I took one star away for packaging. This is a very good 'pre-moisturizer'. I have dry skin and in the beginning, it really helped when I applied this product under my moisturizer in keeping my face moisturized for almost the entire day. This is a creamy pre-moisturizer instead of the usual 'greasy', and the consistency of the cream is medium. Not too thin, not too thick, and it was absorbed into the skin immediately. However, unfortunately, into my fourth week of using the cream, I developed a painful red rash unlike the previous times when there would be some redness that would dissipate shortly. I believe that the reason for the extreme irritation was due to the extra aggressive measures that I have progressed to in my nightly derma rolling sessions. The worst areas of the rash developed where I had worked the most aggressively during my procedure. The reason why I had taken away one star for this Lancer Vitamin C with L-Ascorbic Acid is due to their poor packaging, which results in a complete loss of potency regarding the Vitamin C. This cream comes in a jar and when Vitamin C is exposed to air, heat, and/or light, it loses its potency, so within a few days after the jar was opened any benefits from the Vitamin C are destroyed. This product would probably been better packaged in a tube, or even better, in a sealed pump container. Even though one cannot get the entire amount of a product out of a tube or a pump container, the Vitamin C potency would not have been destroyed upon the first use. However, as an (expensive pre-moisturizer)...it did work for my very dry skin until I developed the rash.To sum up my review I do recommend Lancer Vitamin C L-Ascorbic as a nice pre-moisturizer for dry skin, however, if you are going through a professional or aggressive skin treatment, whether treatments are abrasions, pixels, derma rolling, micro-needle therapy or any similar procedure, then I recommend to 'Proceed With Extreme Caution', as this cream is not gentle to sensitive and treated skin. This ends my review of Lancer Vitamin C L-Ascorbic Acid, however, I have done a little research regarding Vitamin C L-Ascorbic in general, and if you're interested I would like to share what I have learned.Benefits of Topical L-ascorbic acidAscorbic acid is a water soluble vitamin required by the body that we do not synthesize ourselves so our source of Vitamin C is plants, particularly fruits.Topical ascorbic acid is beneficial for skin because it is a crucial step in the biosynthesis of collagen, which gives the skin its firmness.Topical vitamin C performs three different functions in skin metabolism: as an antioxidant, as an inhibitor of melanin, and as a stimulator of collagen synthesis. As an antioxidant, vitamin C prevents or suppresses the development of skin cancer caused by UVA and UVB exposure. As a melanin inhibitor, vitamin C helps to lighten the skin. And by stimulating collagen synthesis, vitamin C accelerates skin firming and helps to prevent fine lines.Advantages:Applied topically, l-ascorbic acid:Improves the appearance of skin by reducing fine lines and wrinkles, protects, and lessens the effects of sunburns. It also protects the skin from free-radical attack, and prevents skin cell damage due to ultraviolet radiation. Once L-Ascorbic acid penetrates the skin, it stays there for up to 72 hours. This means that a properly formulated topical vitamin-C product can have a long lasting effect in the skin.Fast acting, results can be seen in just a few days or weeks of use. Improvement in skin texture and skin tone is easily noticeable after several days of use; however, depressed scars may take several months to be normalized.Disadvantages:L-ascorbic acid is highly unstable when exposed to heat, light and air losing its beneficial effects on skin cells. The potency of topical L-ascorbic acid degrades because of its conversion into dehydroascorbic acid, which is the inactive form of vitamin-C.Most products on the market contain L-Ascorbic acid in a "watered down" solution and they have very poor stability. They degrade in just a few days. Pure and active L-Ascorbic solution is clear in color and turns yellow as it is degraded into Dehydroascorbic Acid. Further degradation would turn the color of ascorbic acid from yellow to dark brown. Some manufacturers put food yellow food colorings into their product to camouflage an inactive and degraded product.Effectiveness:To be effective, topical ascorbic acid must be formulated at an acidic pH which is preferably pH 3.5 or less. The skin penetration ability of topical ascorbic acid is dependent on its acidity. The more acidic the formulation the better is the skin penetration but skin irritation also increases. The concentration of topical ascorbic acid should be at least 10% to be effective and 20% for optimum skin absorption. A 20% concentration ascorbic acid solution is irritating enough that it may cause temporary redness and moderate stinging sensation. Studies have shown that Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Ascorbyl Palmitate are not as effective as L-Ascorbic acid solutions. Some manufacturers use these "alternative" forms of topical vitamin-C because they are more stable compared to L-ascorbic acid solutions, but their effectiveness is questionable.Studies have shown that ascorbic acid derivatives such as Magnesium Ascrobyl Phosphate and Ascorbyl Palmitate did not increase the levels of ascorbic acid in the skin.Application of 5% vitamin C cream resulted in a significant improvement in both fine and coarse wrinkles. Topical vitamin C may have therapeutical effects for partial corrections of the regressive structural changes associated with the aging process.Well, this finishes up the lengthiest review that I have ever written, but I feel that it is important to understand the needs of our skin and the usefulness of some of the products we use. The more we understand, the easier is for us to make the right choices on which products suit our own specific needs and then just a matter of narrowing down what brand product will give us the best results.I hope my review has been helpful.
