How does this product vary from the 303 Marine formula? I don't understand what the difference is.

I really do not know. I have a boat on a river. I use both products , seem the same to me. The only thing I am thinking , maybe the marine formula has more UV protection since the boat is usually in open sun light.They are both excellent !

Could this product be applied to the outside of a vertical propane smoker with surface temps that can reach up to around 500 degrees?

The simple answer is yes. The material safety data sheet for this product under section 5.1 (flashpoint & method) & section 5.2 (auto ignition temperature) both state not applicable. Under multiple section 2 categories it's stated that there is no inhalation risk. This would support a yes answer. Under section 10.2 (decomposition products) it states heat & co2 will age the product faster. Longevity of the protestant may be short but it appears that it, in theory, is safe. I could not find a temp smoke point. If you try this I may do a test spot somewhere on your smoker before you attempt a full coat.

Can it be used on a black and white cotton umbrella used in Arizonia direct sun to keep from fading ?

It goes on a little like armor All except it dries and leaves a matte finish and is not greasy at all. I am not sure if it would do the same for cotton as it would soak in but I am sure it would be better than nothing at all. Its holding up well on my car exterior so far.

Received the 10 oz. bottle, and it was half full. I picked it up and turned it upside down and the liquid came running out. How can I get $back?
