Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos

Silver Surfer:Rebirth of Thanos collects Silver Surfer #34-38, Thanos Quest #1-2, and material from Logan's Run #6. I picked this up as I want to go through Jim Starlin's Infinity collection. As many others and myself would say, this is essential to read before Infinity Gauntlet. At the bottom I'll also be talking about the differences between Marvel US and Panini UK Ltd printings for those unsure of the differences or to new fans of comics.If you are wanting to follow Starlin's Infinity as well the order which is provided in the book is as follows: Avengers Versus Thanos, Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos, Infinity Gauntlet, Silver Surfer Epic Collection: The Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity Gauntlet Aftermath, Infinity War, Infinity War Aftermath, Infinity Crusade Vol. 1, Infinity Crusade Vol. 2, Marvel Universe: The End, Thanos: Infinity Abyss, and Thanos: Redemption. I've looked at reviews of the Silver Surfer Epic Collection: The Infinity Gauntlet and think I'll be skipping it.We start with with Silver Surfer #34-38 (1990) written by Jim Starlin with penciling from Ron Lim and ink from John Beatty & Tom Christopher. As the title gives away here we witness the rebirth of Thanos and given a task from Mistress Death to bring balance, the death of half of the population in the universe. If like me you purchased the Marvel Platinum The Definitive Thanos you'll be familiar with #34-35 and I found them just as enjoyable if not more so reading them again. There was only one issue I didn't care for, one where the Silver Surfer isn't fun….I thought it was kinda dumb to be honest but it was only one issue and the issues before and after are well done and make up for it. The artwork is to my taste and well done, and luckily #38 easily brings us into our next inclusion, Thanos Quest.After #34-38 we have Thanos Quest #1-2 (1990), with the same crew from before. Here Thanos learns of a way to complete Mistress Death task significantly quicker, with the help of the Soul Stones. In this complete story we see how Thanos acquires each stone and the power and significance of each one. A very enjoyable and entertaining story, I noticed that although the team's the same the style and colour seem different between Thanos Quest and Silver Surfer, not a bad thing but you will notice it.Overall, this is a must to the collection if you are a fan of Thanos or just want to follow the Infinity story that Jim Starlin delivers. I couldn't recommend this enough.Hopefully you found this review helpful and happy reading.Marvel US Vs Panini UK Ltd printings -It should also be mentioned, especially to new comic book fans that this is published by Marvel US not Panini UK Ltd. If you've bought a Marvel Platinum that's Panini UK Ltds quality. There are some differences between the two and I'll mention some of them. For starters the sizes, the US are thinner because they use thinner paper than UK, while some may prefer thicker paper which is a bonus, thinner paper means a thinner book allowing you to store more on a shelf. While Panini UK offer great quality, they are very limited to what they print, primarily the more popular stories or ongoing stories, for instance out of the run I listed above UK only print Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War, and I would advise against the UK Infinity War printing as it doesn't collect Adam Warlock and the Infinity Watch. Another difference is that Marvel US comics say Marvel is on the top of the spine, while UK is at the bottom. A difference which I kind of touched on is content, so the UK print of Infinity War just collects Infinity War while the US masterworks collects Infinity War and Infinity watch which is a series that goes on throughout the Infinity series. Another example I can give is Jonathan Hickman's Infinity, UK printed the two in separate parts while Marvel US you can buy it in a single book I'll be including a picture that compares Hickman's Infinity (US) beside Marvel Platinum The Definitive Black Panther (UK). This will show the size difference and the marvel branding placement also number of page difference compared to size. Black Panther has 312 pages while Infinity has 592.If you are new to comics I hope this was helpful to you.

Great quality

A must have for any marvel fan

So, where to begin. This is absolutely amazing. I bought this and the infinity gauntlet comic. This comic gives the backstory of how all the gems are collected and comparing this to the movie. Its so different. I would definitely recommend. It reads so well and each page is amazing to look at.But the reason I gave it only 4 stars was because, firstly the front cover natural bends out so it’s slightly warped but thats just me being picky. But the major thing is on a couple of pages I couldn’t read the actual writing because the way they copied this, some of the speech bubbles are cut in half. There are only like 2-3 like that so it’s not a huge worry. But apart from that I absolutely loved it and I have recommended it to all my friends.

I remember reading these comics when they came out and being blown away by the scale and majesty of the narrative. However, I missed out of the Thanos Quest mini series first time around, which is why I bought this collected edition. It did not disappoint! Thanos takes each Infinity gem with guile and brilliance, becoming god of all reality. For all his efforts, however, Mistress Death remains singularly unimpressed...Classic Starlin with incredible art from Ron Lim.

This graphic novel is fantastic! It collects the entire story of Thanos' hunt for the soul gems, which then moves on to the Infinity Gauntlet story line. It also includes a lot of important Marvel characters for anyone who's just starting out reading comics. If you like Thanos... or want to get to know who he is this is perfect for that.

Rebirth is a great collection of cosmic adventures that build the stakes nicely for The Infinity Gauntlet.The stories by Starlin feel epic, and the character of Thanos' truly shows he'll go to any depths to achieve his goals.Ron Lim has a really good sleek style that fits the cosmic scene very well.Essential prelude to The Infinity Gauntlet.

A must-read in the Infinity saga if you want to understand that back story of the Infinity Gems in the MCU.

Sets up the premise for the infinity gauntlet event. Jim starlin/Ron lim writing/drawing thanos and cosmic stories is the best thing. Great buy.

J'ai adoré ce comic. L'histoire se déroule juste avant "le Gant de l'infini". Silver Surfer découvre que Thanos est vivant. Et on voit comment se dernier collecte au fur et à mesure les 6 gemmes.
