I have been playing golf for over 50 years and due to bad circulation can only play when I can use my buggy. For a number of years though Due to a dodgy back, I need help to pick the ball out of the cup when putted out. I had previously had a simple 4 prong type pick-up on the end of my putter but when I purchased a new bag with a dedicated putter "sleeve tube" on the outside, I found that my older pick-up would not go into the tube so I purchased this one as an alternative. The unit screws onto the end of the putter using the supplied screws, and took only a few seconds to fit. Being no bigger than the end of the putter when folded meant that it fits the putter holder without problem. when required for use, I putt out without opening it up, which means that the putter does not need to be held with caution as there are no "Claws" to interfere with the putting action. When I need to pick up the ball it is a simple thing to flip open the pickup and press down to collect the ball from the cup.

It's alright but....
Even thought it feels and looks flimsy, it works, I'll say that for it.However, the fitting of it to the putter head could be made easier and it's a bit of a nightmare to get it to lie correctly. In fact I didn't quite manage that so its a little bit crooked on mine, not much, but irritating none the less. That's why I've docked it on starOne great thing is, when you're putting it's not a great heavy bulk on top of your handle. And I must say, it picks the ball out of the hole nicely without having to chase it round which frequently happens with the rubber cup ones. It also closes easily and quickly once you get the knack.

held it in place ((best to position the one leg (rather than the two legs bit) at the back of the putter then it's easy to flick
It looks flimsy and probably is flimsy but as far as I'm concerned, it works!! I got the Philips screwdriver out, held it in place ((best to position the one leg (rather than the two legs bit) at the back of the putter then it's easy to flick up because the back of your putter is nearest to the golfer and therefore, easier to flick up to open - that's my opinion anyway!)).I've found it great and works great although I wouldn't lean on it or put a great deal of weight on it - just open by flicking and pick the ball out the hole. Sure as hell saves the back if you've got arthritis!

Why stoop to retrieve something from below ground level?
Previously had a ball picker that just pushed onto my putter grip. Since then I have had a fatter grip fitted and the old push on wouldn't fit. The Longridge pickup fits any size grip because it sits on the end of your putter secured by three screws. While I don't mind bending to pick things up off the ground, the extra distance to the bottom of the hole is uncomfortable.........why bother? A flick of the thumb and the picker is ready to make things a lot easier. Fold it back together and it slides into your bag with no sharp prongs to get caught up on stuff. Clever design helping to make the game that little bit easier on your back.

Fixed in position easily enough, and (& with very limited use so far) it works. Just how long it will stay fixed to the Putter is debatable, as it simply screws into the rubber grip, but so far, so good. I have had a highly-similar gadget previously, and after just a little use, it continually fell out each Round - meant having to empty my golf bag of all clubs: turn the bag upside down, and then to try to fish out the ball retriever from the bottom of the bag - but when it works, it works.

No more bending....??
The product is good value. I bought it because I suffer a little with a bad back and wanted something to help me stop bending down to much to pick out my Birdie Balls out the hole. The Nickel works best when the ball is in the hole. Trying to pick it up when it's on the Green is a bit tricky. At first I kept forgetting to use it but now I unhinge it as soon as I pull the Putter out the Bag. With the mechanics out it doesn't effect your Putt. Would I recommend it, yes I would.
