Da Vinci Code Mini Cryptex Valentine's Day Interesting Creative Romantic Birthday Gifts for Her

I really liked the idea behind this, and gave it to my wife for our anniversary. I created an at-home puzzle room, or escape room for her using this as one of the puzzles.Someone else mentioned that this puzzle is not secure, and not to put valuables in it, and I agree, but I also don't think that's the point. This is essentially a novelty/toy.Pros:It's quite sturdy and heavy, the body and mechanism is completely metal. Changing the combination is pretty simple, and required just a few minutes to take the cylinder apart re-arrange the letter rings, and put it back together. It is a completely functional puzzle, and I was able to store some small items and notes in the puzzle with no problems at all. It was very reasonably priced, and even though I didn't care about the cheap LOTR rings that came with it, my wife loved them.Cons:I had only a couple of complaints about it. When put together tightly it is quite difficult to turn the letter wheels to the combination. I don't know what a good fix for this would be, perhaps lubricating it a bit with some graphite or other dry lubricant, but even then, you'll start seeing residue come off on your hands if you use it often.Also one of the screws on the end piece was quite loose and didn't seem to be seated properly. I found that the hole it was screwing into was too large and oddly shaped. I can get it to catch, but I have to have it just right to put it all together properly, this seems like a lapse in manufacturing standards/quality for the mechanism.Overall: I really like this puzzle. We have plans to continue to use this for clue-finding games and puzzles in our home in the future. Money well-spent for a conversation piece and/or simple novelty. I would like a similar puzzle in wood, if I could find it.

I didn't really look over the description well when I purchased it, so I didn't know about any of the extras. The first thing I noticed was the heft. It is solid. When I took it out of the Amazon packaging it was in a nice little gift bag. Nothing fancy, but mostly you expect it to be just thrown in a plastic bag and maybe sealed. Inside the gift bag was a nice gift box. Inside that was a gift tag, some extra screws in case some get lost and a couple of cheep, but not terrible necklace bands. The thing is heavy. All of this was great so far. But when I started to enter the initial password, one ring will cause the rings next to it to move a little bit, making it a little difficult to set the password. It's definitely a two-hand ordeal. When I got it open I was pleasantly surprised to find the rings I did not expect. That's what the necklace bands were for. They are obviously cheap at this price, but they don't look cheap. I didn't realize that this was a valentine's day specific item and was not expecting the hearts cut into it. It's not ideal for my use, but that's on me. It's right there in the title.Overall a very satisfying purchase. It's not high precision or anything, but it's a fun little gift.

This was bought for my grandson’s birthday with money inside. We gave him hints to the new combination that we had put into it. Good gift. Easy to install new combination. Workmenship was a bit sloppy which makes it difficult to get the combination in line. It’s nice and heavy. Which gives it a good feel. It should last a long time.

I saw this item and knew right away that I had to use it for my next romantic surprise. This item did not disappoint! It it very durable and weighty. The letters rotate very easily, so sometimes you have to hold the other letters in place while you line up the others.The instructions were very easy to follow on resetting the code.TIP: The letters will get stuck/hard to move if you put them on upside down while changing the code. I did this on accident and had a tough time prying them apart. They were designed to go together a specific way.TO PUT THE LETTERS ON CORRECTLY: Have the letter wheel in your RIGHT hand (letters right-side up) and the lock wheel that goes beneath it in your LEFT hand. If you put it together this way, you won't have any issues.The inside is a tube about the size of a quarter in diameter. I was able to fit several things inside to make the gift complete. I haven't tried the rings yet, so I do not yet know if they tarnish or not. The gold ring is slightly bigger than the silver ring (the gold fits my ring finger and the silver fits my pinky).This item also came with two extra screws and a pair of nonquality necklaces (small rope-type) you can use to put the rings on, I'm guessing. I honestly just tossed the necklaces.
