Can't go wrong at this price.
For the money it's impossible to go wrong. We've got ours set up like this: [RM06} to [Triton Audio FETHEAD] to [ART tube voiced preamp - choose the best setting for the job] into a bog standard Behringer mixer/PC interface. What we've found: Lovely sound. Our one needs the mixer to brighten up the highs. Silky smooth. Compares very favorably with the ART ribbon mike. We've found with ribbon mikes that you need the Triton Audio FETHEAD as it lifts the output to a level that modern mic preamps can handle. We've found that with all ribbon microphones -- no exceptions. Other FET preamps such as the Cloudlifter would have a similar effect as they all use the same technology. Having said that, this little beauty is quite lively. Ideal for voice over work. Not at all 'poppy' but we're using a pop filter anyway as it doesn't detract from the sound at all and is just extra insurance against a 'plosive' ruining the best take of the day. This is an ideal entry into the very interesting world of ribbon microphones without breaking the bank. And it's better to get one at this price with just the leatherette pouch than it is to pay more for one with an expensive to produce flight case or whatever as that adds nothing to the sound. Haven't tried it with instruments yet but where we have used ribbon mics for acoustic guitar, etc. they've sounded gorgeous. Remember -- don't blow into it or you'll destroy the ribbon -- it's only about 2 microns thick and made of aluminum so is very fragile. If used properly and stored sensibly ribbon microphones last for decades. If using it to mic up a guitar amp you may be able to dispense with the FET preamp as the higher sound pressure levels will probably enable you to get enough signal from the mic alone. The ribbon microphone technology is very, very simple. So what you're paying for with a ribbon mic is quality control. With a budget item such as this there isn't much room for QC so there may be more variability, item to item, in the individual ribbon set up. That's not a problem as every microphone has its own individual characteristic anyway -- even two examples of the same model, hence the indication to buy a 'matched pair' if attempting stereo recordings or other critical work. One way to extend the life of a ribbon mic is to ensure they're protected from dust and so forth when left on a mic stand. We use Ziplock bags. Cheap, easily available and if you're looking for a 'vintage' sound (whatever that is) a ribbon mic sounds quite good even in the Ziplock bag! A bit like AM radio back in the day. Just a thought. The main 'enemy' of ribbon mics is tiny iron particles in the atmosphere which are attracted to the very powerful magnets in modern ribbon microphones. So always cover the mic when not in use.Overall, a very pleasant surprise.

The results are excellent. Its quiet
Its a different sound compared to a condenser but its smooth and silky. I am using mine for its figure 8 capability for Mid Side stereo - using a Rode NT55 for the front and this Cintronic ribbon for the side. The results are excellent. Its quiet, but like most ribbons needs a lot of gain so a good quality mic preamp is essential. For the price its pretty damn amazing. A ribbon mic is about as simple as it can be. A claimed 18khz top end but its rolling off before that very gently. But that can be equalised as its a gradual slope. No resonance peaks like you get with large condensors and no need for phantom power.
