Bates Motel: The Complete Series [Blu-ray]

Spoilers ahead mother.
If Somehow you have never seen Psycho then please do not read for spoilers ahoy!A retelling of the Norman Bates story set in the modern world, How can this possibly even come close to working, well strangely enough not only does it work, it is gripping and in Freddie Highmore we have a more than worthy successor to the tics and mannerisms of Norman Bates, that the show chooses Normans formative just getting out of teenage years is genius, it allows for unfamiliar ground to seem familiar with classic tropes getting a nice shiny new coat of paint, Vera Farmiga is an altogether different mother than the one we may have expected, she is not an aggressive evil shrew but a loving mother with her own issues who struggles a little with Norman's "issues"With two other actors this show possibly may not have worked, but with these two it has been an incredibly well written and acted drama of the highest order, watching Norman barely containing his rage and how Freddie Highmore depicts this with going from sunny smile to faltering and then simmering rage is amazing, while watching Norma flip a switch to change whatever mood she is in to accommodate his mood is equally mesmerising, but truly this is the Norman show and in lesser hands when Norman becomes Norma the transformation could have been laughable but Freddie Highmore not only has Norman's tics and mannerisms down but he can also pull off Vera Farmiga's Norma, with a haughty wave of the hand or slight gesture of the head it really is masterful acting and a reminder of what Norman will become. With some small implausabilities to the plot...like any horror film these days, you are invested enough to let it wash over you and understand it is plot driven by desire to tell a good story and so the incongrueties can even seem fitting considering Norman's unreliability as either narrator or viewer, this really was a treat from start to excellent film blending final season and the only thing that made me sad was knowing Freddie Highmore will never show us Norman/Norma in a big budget film as he clearly deserves too. 9/10

We all go a little mad sometimes...
Whew! Bates Motel. What can I say? Or type. Simply put, Bates Motel is thee best thing on telly since, well, The Good Wife. Even Rihanna, shockingly good, couldn’t FUBAR the show. She just forgot to bring her umbrella ella ella ella. What made Bates Motel, for me, an exhilarating shot of adrenaline right to the soul was the GORGEOUS men on display. I’ve been a fan of Freddie Highmore since I first saw him in The Art of Getting by and here the boy (now a man) truly and genuinely delivers with a capital D the performance of his career. He is massively affecting and gives an electrifying take on the iconic character. As his mother, Vera Farmiga, an actress I’ve been watching since 15 Minutes, the film, matches him every step of the way. Hers is a brilliant portrayal of a damaged and scarred woman who is still trying her darnedest to provide a happy and content life for her son. What happens to her during the first episode of season one alone is brutal and, frankly, disturbing. As the third lead, the GORGEOUS Max Thieriot more than holds his own in the shadows of two magnificent acting whirlwinds. Did I mention that he’s FLIPPIN’ gorgeous? Adding to the roster of guy candy totty is the strikingly handsome Mike Vogel (Poseidon and Cloverfield) as a deputy with his own demons. Michael Vartan from TVs Alias makes an appearance as a possible saviour for Norma in season two. Additionally Olivia Cooke, as the supporting female, is a revelation of both feeling and innocence. Finally the former mayor of Gotham City, Nestor Carbonell, is pure magnetism as the town Sheriff. He is the rock, the anchor for Norma. Worthy of note the shower scene is recreated with Austin Nichols from One Tree Hill, don’t worry they don’t show his peepee. What also made Bates Motel awesome entertainment is the little touches in reference to Psycho. Yes the inside disc holder is loose but that’s life, innit. Season one is an 18. Seasons two thru five are 15s. Unmissable.

A Great Series
This is a fascinating, creepy drama that draws you in with so many twists that I was hooked right through to the conclusion. As for the DVDs, they all played without any problems at all. A bit lacking in extra features, but otherwise, an excellent collection.

As Annoying As It Gets.
I had watched this on a streaming service, brilliant and wanted it on disc to add to my collection. What I got was a lazy sloppy mess of labeling, repetitive multi lingual prison threats on every disc, long (and I mean LONG) trailers I had no interest in that could easily have been included on a submenu for those interested in looking at them. Let me expand. There are five series, with ten episodes each series. There is absolutely no indication on the box or disc what series is on it are what episodes. Every disc is numbered 1 or 2 and its not difficult to figure out the sequence of the series when first opened ( a puzzle game I didn't want to play), however put a disc back in the wrong position and prepare yourself to be tormented. Then come the threats, over and over in at least two languages the copyright laws and how you will be dragged through the streets naked before being hung a quartered if you are found to be in breech. Next up the trailers- like them or lump them - you are forced to sit through them-there is no "top menu" escape option. I bought this to be entertained, relaxing entertainment - not a frustrating imposing threatening assault. Maybe you are happy to endure this - I would be amazed if that was the case- but at least you have been advised, stick to the streaming- this is just not worth the hassle.

An Excellent Series
What a show, the characters and story are amazing. I've never seen Psycho so I may as well watch it now! 100% recommend. The reason for a drop in star is due to my packaging being cracked. I don't mind the packaging overall as it saves shelf space!

must see
Amazing script and acting. I am into psychological thrillers and this one had enough twists and turns to keep me excited about each new episode. I wish they had continued it!

Staffel nicht leicht ersichtlich.
Top Serie!! 😊

If you haven’t watched this, you don’t know what your missing!
I bought this for myself because I loved watching it on Netflix (over and over). I’m on season one and so far the quality of the picture is better and I have noticed a few scenes that were not on the Netflix.Really good movie

One of my favorite series, but the box set is not worth it...
I've been looking for the right box everywhere, but I'm afraid most Europeans have to deal with this edition. It's 1 box inside of a cardboard sleeve, which is a cheap design. Considering lots of people buy DVDs and Box sets as collector items, I expected more for this price. The layout of the box is quite messy and because the DVDs do not click in place very well, some discs are loose inside, which can cause them to get scratched. However, the series is amazing!
