it's nicely cushioned with firm padding. It's a great height for my 4 yr old to use the bathroom sink on his own. Unfortunately, it is prone to tip very easily and i've had to catch him from falling more than a handful of time while he's on there. I wish it was also a little longer so it could double as an ergonomic stool for the toilet like a squatty potty but it's not quite long enough.
