Seems expensive for plastic so is it good quality and made to last?

The plastic is quite thick so definitely not 'flimsy and cheap plastic'. I've had mine for over a year now and it still looks like new. I made the mistake of starting off some chili's and peppers in it over spring time but they grew so tall I had to put the 'inner' part of the container outside in the vegetable patch (the roots had taken up all the space where the water is normally stored) and despite it seeing some low temperatures and being bombarded with large apples falling off our apple tree, it has not affected the plastic at all. I'm thinking of buying another one in the spring for dedicated herb growing.

How does the water move from the bottom compartment up into the soil?

hi there. there is a double layer bottom filled with water. once the roots are through this first layer (takes 2 weeks normal watering from top first) the roots will get the water from the reservoire. hope we could help. best regards, TERAMICO

Where is this made please

According to Lechuza’s website, their planters are made in Germany.

Would this do for planting tomatoes? Like a planter... would it hold 3 tomato plants when fully grown? Thanks.

It would hold the plants but because tomatoes need lots of water, you would have to add water regularly because the reservoir simply isn't big enough for plants that needs lots of water (which really defeats the object of why people use this type of planter). I'm growing Basil in mine at the moment and have to fill it up every 3 days.
