Ignore the negative reviews. You won't be sorry!!
I was hesitant to purchase these but after trying, and failing, to use the in game purchase system, I decided to put my faith in the fact that it's been two years since the blank card mishap with Arenanet. I was worried that either the cards would have no code or the codes wouldn't work but when they came, I was in for a happy surprise. The codes were on the cards and they worked like a charm. So, if you are debating on buying these gem code cards, I say go for it. You will not be sorry and the stuff you can get is awesome!!! ~Starfire

It works
It's a card, comes in a "DVD" style case, gives you some gems to spend. Not really much to review about this. Card quality is nice. The case is neat for displaying in a collection of things if you collect stuff. Code is behind a scratch off thing. Had no issues activating the code.

The correct price.
I guess some of the reviews on here are from when the price was higher. $25.00 for 2,000 gems is the correct price according to the in game gem store so this is neither a deal or a ripoff. But it makes a great gift for someone you know plays a lot of GW2. Which I do. The game itself is great and there are lots of things you can spend the gems on like armor skins or another character slot. If you don't want to buy anything from the gem store you can always just turn the gems into gold and 2,000 gems could be around 70-80 gold depending on the market.

Why would you buy this? To gift gems to people, duh!
There are two reasons for why you would want to buy a Guild Wars 2 gem card: 1. You are too young to own a credit card or paypal account to buy the gems in-game 2. You want to GIFT gems to someone by giving them this card, or the code on it. Guild Wars 2 recently added a "gifting" option for all the in-store items - but there is no way to send raw Gems to someone if you wanted to. This is how you would do it. I should also note that 10.00 gets you 800 gems in-game... by that logic this card is only worth a little over 20 bucks.

Didn't work, terrible "customer support"
Finally got the wife to try the game (since we all loved the first one) and take a break from WoW. She was enjoying GW2, so I bought two of these. Gave one to her, and was going to give the other to our son when summer break started. She eagerly opened it up, and after inputting the code - was told it was invalid. We decided to wait on the second one until hers was fixed. Anet's customer service has always been terrible, but it's actually gotten worse over the last decade. They wanted her game client code for the first game (from 2005!), as well as a plethora of personal information. Also, each person that 'followed up' on the support ticket (after she emailed them on the *same ticket number* again) was different. Each one of them started the process over from the beginning, as if trying to frustrate her into giving up. It worked. After emailing support back and forth for a WEEK, she gave up. She has decided she's never giving Anet or NCSoft any money ever again, and hasn't even logged onto GW2 since. Amazon refunded with no issues (thank you!), but she wouldn't even let me use my card on her account. For a little while there, the family got to spend a couple hours a week playing a game together. It was nice while it lasted. Now she's all even uninstalled the game, and has gone back to WoW. Thanks a lot Anet.

I'd love to have this... but...
Considering the price of gems with game gold has dropped, I'm cautious about buying gems with real money. You have to think with a little hard work you'd be able to earn gems w/o paying a single penny of real life money. I think 100 gems was going for about 1 gold and now they're about half that... but the price will prob fluctuate so don't rely on it being cheap all the time. Anyways I'm reluctant about buying gems with real money because with real money the price seems set in stone where as the price can change with in game gold so you could get a better deal if you just use in game gold... in my mind anyways. For those that want to spend their real money for gems to acquire them more quickly, I suggest just buying them directly in game. These gems cards seem more of a thing to buy only if, for some reason, you don't have a credit card. Maybe the price will go down in the future. I did see some of these on ebay for about $5 less than here. EDIT 12/8/2012 i actually bought one of these for a friend that lives in a different state and i'm happy with it. the $25 base price is right in line with what they cost in game... but i did have to pay tax so it was more. still i appreciate that i'm able to buy gems for my friend that lives in a different state. i still suggest you buy the gems directly in the game or use ingame gold to buy gems. currently though, 100 gems are going for nearly 2 gold which is nearly double what it was about a month ago.

Code worked, but huge waste of materials and space
They REALLY did not need to send the credit-card-sized card in a full computer game/DVD sized container! They should've stuck it to a piece of paper like credit card companies do when they send out cards so they can just send it in a regular envelope rather than a full sized package. Also, there was a 5 and an S in the code that looked almost identical (both like a 5). It took a few guesses to figure out what I was typing wrong.

1 out of 3 cards worked. 2 returned.
Ordered 2 2000 Gem cards the first one worked fine, the second could not be redeemed with a try again error message. tried to contact areanet support they wanted a list of about 20 things to try and get it added to my account so I instead did a replacement with Amazon. got the replacement today and it also doesn't work so I'm sending it back and I won't be ordering anymore gem cards period. I did notice the card that worked was from batch 09* and the 2 that didn't work were from batch 08*.
