My new best brush!
I was told about this brush by a friend who just raved about it. As it cost less than £15 I decided to add it to my growing collection of Omega and Semogue boar brushes and see what the fuss is about.Holding the brush for the first time I noticed how incredibly ergonomic and attractive it was. The painted wooden handle looks fantastic and the shape makes it very easy to hold and control. It is extremely easy to load up with hard soap (TOBS) and right from the start has been a wonderful face lather brush. I cannot believe it is so soft straight from the box (although still has a backbone) and I cant wait to see what it is like in a months time. A great high quality brush I would reccomend to anyone.

Great medium size brush
This is a lovely brush, a bit stiff initially, but soon softens after a brief soak in warm water. The bristles will start to splay after a few weeks of use but this just adds to the look of a traditional brush. I predominantly use soaps and lather up direct on the face as opposed to using a shaving mug. The handle has a good feel about it, but as its hand painted I'd be careful not to completely submerse it in water as it may start to crack or peel?Great medium size brush for the traditional shaver

Give it time.
I had heard that boar brushes could be better than badger brushes for use with hard soaps, and as the Semogue 1305 was often highly recommend I thought I would give it a try. I did have some reservations as a good badger brush can be quite expensive, whilst boar brushes (including the 1305) are comparatively very cheep. On initially trying the Semogue 1305 I was worried that the old adage that "you get what you pay for" applied to this boar brush, because although it really did load well from a hard soap, it was terrible at bowl lathering, producing hardly any lather at all. I tried a couple more attempts at bowl lathering, even trying softer soaps, but each time it was the same poor performance. Then one night I was in a hurry and decided to try face lathering with it ... what a difference !! Whilst I had OK results face lathering with a badger brush, the Semogue 1305 boar brush really did whip up an excellent lather. My next concern came when I began to notice that I was getting a fair number of stray bristles on the 1305, and then noticed that a lot of bristles were developing split ends. Initially I saw this as a fault, and again put it down to a sign of cheapness. However a quick search on the internet confirmed that neither was a fault, but in fact very desirable in boar brushes in order to develop softness at the end, whilst keeping the core stiffness. My Semogue 1305 is now well on it's way to being "broken in", it is settling into it's new shape and is fantastically soft whilst retaining a good amount of stiffness.Once you give it time to break-in, the Semogue 1305 is a really great brush, that shows that you don't always have to pay a lot for good products.

Excellent brush
Purchased in August 2018, and has now seen almost a year of daily usage. Lathers up beautifully on the face using Taylors soap, and holds ample lather for a second pass. Has lost an occasional bristle, but probably only 1 or 2 a month. The bristles were stiff at first, but softened up after the first few uses and are still wonderfully dense and soft. Has years more life in it, and cannot recommend highly enough.

Excellent
I've had this brush over a year now and it's great. Hasn't lost many bristles and has broken in nicely. When I decided to make the switch to safety razors from cartridge razors this was the first brush that I bought. I've since purchased a couple of others but this is still my favourite and is the one I use every day. It has a very good and well deserved reputation. You can't go wrong with this one.

Old school quality
Brush is breaking in nicely, which takes a few uses like all boar brushes. Already feels softer at the tips than cheapo makes, and zero smell, which can sometimes be an issue. Design and finish give a touch of old school barber style. Very happy.

Great Service, Great Brush
Great Dimensions, yet to break in so I can't form a rounded opinion on it but based on other reviews this should be one of the softest boar brushes out there after 15-20 shaves and should be great for face lathering.Superb service from the Portuguese Factory, free delivery which is always a nice touch and I also received a personal email from them to say "don't hesitate to contact them in the event of any issues". I can't recommend the Portuguese Factory highly enough.

Good stiff bristle brush
I like the stiffness of this brush on the beard, but the bristles have a tendency to splay out when drying: I put a rubber band over the top to keep the Bristle in shape

This is how a Boar Brush should be built
Excellent . Well made , handle is ideal design , natural grip , good size neither too small or to large . When in use , water does not run down handle causing it to become slippery . Fits in my Weishi brush /razor stand . The bristle is firm providing a good enjoyable facial scrub while lathering well . The size of the bristle seems ideal , not so large you can't work on a small area which needs more lathering . Very little bristle loss so far , about two months . Well designed and well built .

The best boar brush - period!
This clearly deserves the five star. Semogue is a family run business from Portugal and the brushes are handmade, with passion. I did my research and narrowed down on 1305 which is one of the most respected boar brushes in the world of DE shavers. And I found out just why as I used it.Firstly, unlike most brushes (esp the good enough Omega from Italy) it has much less stink out of the box. Rinse once with a dishwasher and then leave lathered with your cream over night and there's no trace of the smell left. Now, onto the use. It is surprisingly soft for a boar brush and gets better with use. While the Omega brushes remain hard, you actually get a luxurious experience with the Semogue 1305.It is well balanced in terms of softness of feel and stiffness of the bristles. So you can do both bowl and face lather. I prefer the latter. This brush does a great job of transferring all the latter on your face. You'd be surprised how much less lather remains on the brush after you are done. Contrast this with the lather hogger Omega brushes and you realise the savings (Semogue is double the price) over a period of time in costly soaps.I have been using it for two weeks now, and there have been only 2-3 bristles lost especially in the initial week. I don't expect more loss. And finally, I like its looks. Wooden handle with a retro paint job goes well with my classic aesthetics. I would recommend it to anyone interested in wet shaving. It is the only boar brush you will ever need.
