No amount of sun bathing has any effect on the colour of my legs and I have spent years wearing long trousers or at best 3/4 length cut offs in summer. This year was so hot, I decided I was going to have to do something more serious. I read the reviews and was a little concerned about the supposed smell. In fact when I applied the product, I could barely smell anything and it certainly wasn't unpleasant. As advertised, I had to use a couple of applications to get a good colour, but I was pretty impressed (and I'm not easily impressed!) For once I felt I could expose my legs in public and forked out for 3 pairs of shorts! It did feel a little uncomfortable - after all, it had been about 20 years since my legs had seen daylight, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was made easier when I was able to get used to shorts on holiday where I wouldn't be seeing anyone I knew. I actually felt great after a while, but discovered one drawback: If I scrubbed my legs in the shower, the dye on my skin rolled off and left a patchy looking mess with areas of light and dark skin. I also had to be careful not to cross my legs until the cream was completely dry, otherwise the places where my skin touched would rub off the dye. I did however develop a couple of techniques to overcome these issues. After a bit of trial and error, it was possible to apply a light layer of cream to the lighter areas to even them up to a similar tone to the slightly darker areas. In terms of showering, I would avoid any friction or scrubbing of my legs & either air dry, blow dry (with a hair dryer) or gently blot dry my legs. This seemed to keep the colour fairly even. Once a week I would do a full and proper scrub and take all the tan off, have a shave and start again from scratch. I do also think moisturising well is key. So if like me you're thinking about it - go ahead and take the plunge: after all, \"You're worth it\"!A year later and I've just started to fake up again for the summer. I couldn't find my review for ages...until I discovered I'd only given it 4 stars - what a meanie! I'm upgrading to 5. As the summer came and temperatures started to rise, I had to wear shorts. My legs hadn't seen daylight for a decade and I thought I looked OK until I saw the photos... I was absolutely mortified! My legs were horrible and pale and didn't match my arms and head which were all well tanned.I needed a quick, safe, discreet solution so asked a nice lady in work for advice and she recommended for a beginner like me to try one of these moisturising type creams.I was a bit suspicious when I applied it the first time as the lotion is white and I thought fake tan was brown in order to stain your skin that colour. I googled it so I now know how it works but I didn't think it would work at all at first.Imagine my amazement when I woke up the next day and my legs were already a degree browner and there was a noticeable gradient at the top of my thighs between the treated and untreated skin! After two applications my legs are miles better and I'd have no issue with the photos now.Some people talk about odours and that worried me as I didn't want the people I lived with to know I was using such a product. Honestly I can't smell anything. Perhaps if you put your nose one inch from the skin you might just get a slight hint of the biscuit smell people talk about? I'd call it odourless in reality. I mean I wash my hands afterwards as directed and all I can smell is the scent of the handwash. After about 3 days my skin gained a pleasant glow. You can literally see the micro glittering sparkles on your skin if you look close.I believe is better to not use it everyday, as it is a gradual tanning lotion it will build up on your skin and you don't want to look orange after too many applications.I found that using it for 3 days and then a break, is the best choice.I advice to wait around 30 minutes before putting your clothes on, as it may transfer a little bit of colour. Or wear something dark as you won’t see it as much.And please do WASH YOUR HANDS after applying it. I forgot to wash my hands once and the next day my hands were noticeably darker and had a yellow-ish tint. (You can also use gloves of course)The product has a particular smell that is very similar to most sun protective lotions.
