Best purchase I’ve made. It’s the perfect size, firmness and quality is excellent. It’s easy to fold, and to simply wipe clean. There was a smell, but I really didn’t mind it, it smelled nice!

Like anything new it should be aired out, the fragrance is nice but overpowering initially. But it is a natural smell unlike the VOC's of memory foam and mattress synthetics. It seems to be well made.

I opened the box and immediately my room was filled with the stench of what i can only describe as a pet store, i was definitely thrown off by the smell but im going to try and air it out for a few days outside to see if it goes away, hoping it does.

I am use to the smell of a true tatami mat. This smells like old wet hay.

Investing in a Tatami Mat can be a big decision -- they’re harder to come across in the USA and can be quite expensive for just a single mat. Traditional ones also take up a lot of room if they’re not in use on the floor -- which is what makes this foldable Tatami mat a good option for people who want to try out this type of Japanese floor cover without importing full-size Tatami.To start, this mat is foldable, which makes it easy to store when not in use -- but that also means it is about half as thick as a regular tatami mat. This means it feels a little different than a full-size Tatami Mat, but the effect is still nice. It’s still much more comfortable than sitting on a hardwood floor by itself.It smells like it's made of real rush grass, which is something I really like. As soon as I unfolded this Tatami Mat, my room smelled wonderful. I quickly realized that it was a smell I only really experienced before when I visited Japan. It was nice to have it at home too. Note, however, that this smell may seem a bit too strong when you first open the product. I had to leave it on my office floor for a few weeks before I either adjusted, or the scent mellowed out.The fabric bottom of the mat is nice and makes me feel comfortable about putting it on my floor. I’m not worried about it scratching or damaging the floor. At the same time, the undersurface is a bit too slippery, and it’s easy for the mat to move around.Overall, I’m very happy with this lightweight Tatami Mat. It’s a great starter for someone thinking about trying Tatami, or someone who doesn’t want to use one all the time.

Oh I love this mat so much. It arrived in a nice cover but that will need to be replaced because its not well made and just the removal of the mat the first time caused it to rip. The mat itself is thick and actually quite comfortable to rest on, I even took a nap one day and woke up with zero back or neck pain. There is a very earthy grassy smell to it that doesn’t go away, fine with me as its soothing.
