Review: He wouldn't be the first doctor to turn author.A.J Cronin did likewise. We know County Down, having lived there and this tale is one of enchantment for us,having experienced the warmth and glow of many good Irish Christmasses Review: Those that have read more stories by Patrick Taylor will find themselves back in the Irish village of Ballybuckleboo. It is nearing Christmas and young Dr.Barry Laverty is looking forward to the return of his girl friend Patricia, and also to his first Christmas in the village. Along with his senior partner, Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly, both find the weeks before Christmas hectic. The whole village seems to have the seasonal colds and coughs, and there is always a medical emergency. On top of all this, competition arrives in the form of a new doctor known to Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly, as being a poacher and somewhat of a quack. What next? This holds the readers attention! Despite this busy time the parties start and both doctors join in on the fun. They also find time to play Santa to a struggling single mother with a sick child and no money in the bank. It snows, which is rare in Balleybuckleboo. Despite the snowfall the story continues to mesmerize the reader. Miracles are as rare as snowfall in the village, but that does not mean that they never happen! Read on! This is a wonderful story which entertains from the first word, told by a great story teller.
