Looks very wordy, but the actual exercises are very well explained
I cant claim to know whether the explanations based on meridians are correct, but the lesson plans are cear and easy to implement and the text is clear and intelligently writtenI am sceptical of the "scientific" explanation. But I am convinced though practice that Yin yoga is a powerful if unexpected method of releasing stress through a meditative style of yoga.To me it makes sense that long term stress would require sustained slow and breath-related exercises to address. In times af acute stress Yin Yoga can provide a dramtic release... longer term, its benefits require more faith and consistent practice.

The answer I've been looking for!
This is an amazing book, which integrates elements of Yoga, Buddhism, transpersonal psychology and Chinese medicine into one coherent path. Sarah Powers draws on all these traditions, to offer a way of energising, healing and harmonising mind body and spirit in a deeply personal way. The author describes her understanding of Yoga as 'a process of fully inhabiting ourselves and our life in a radically engaging and inquisitive way,' and I would say that this applies to the approach of the book as a whole. The text is thought provoking, the practical instructions flow and the photographs and diagrams are easy to follow. It can be used to inform and enhance daily practice, and as a 'manual' to consult for helping specific conditions. I am so glad I found it and I use it every day.

A must have for yin yoga teachers and practioners
A fabulous and detailed book by the wonderful yoga teacher Sarah Powers. I was fortunate to take a 10 days yin yoga teacher training with her and we needed her book. It's very well written, very detailed, has many postures (yin) with photos and detailed explanations on how to organize a yin yoga class. There are short & long classes per meridian group you would want to work on, so it's very helpful for teachers but also if you want to practice at home by yourself. Warmly recommended.

Takes you through yin
It’s a comprehensive and clear walk through of poses with alternatives, and some sequences. Oddly the cover photo isn’t a yin pose ? I like the Buddhist and mindfulness sections

Informative and beneficial
Really clear descriptions to perform the postures and a simple introduction to cover complex methodology such as Buddhism, Chinese medicine etc; have really enjoyed learning about how these varying systems overlap and compliment each other. A great addition to a yoga library; particularly when they body doesn't feel up to yang style asana! They yin postures are powerful and have really helped undo years of tension and stress build up in my shoulders - also great for IBS sufferers as it calms the nervous system and relaxes the digestive organs.

A great book!
Having returned from a yoga retreat which introduced me to yin yoga I wanted to continue the practice once home but found that there are no yin yoga classes locally. This book had been recommended by one of the yoga teachers at the retreat so I decided to give it a go. The book is very interesting & well written. Each of the sequences are covered in detail & the clear instructions of how to get in & out of each posture is accompanied by photos so it makes it very easy to practice yin at home.

Great book for students and teachers alike!
This book was recommended to me by my yoga teacher and it is now a firm favourite. The book covers so many subjects and has clear, easy to follow sequences for different body areas and points to focus on as well as breath work and meditation.

I was recommended this book by my sister who teaches Yoga
I was recommended this book by my sister who teaches Yoga. I also teach yoga and Sarah Powers has opened up another world to me with her insight into the practices of yoga. I am so grateful I have come across this book and I'm putting her sequences into my personal daily practice. The clarity of her communication to the reader and the images make it simple to understand at a deeper level the mind and body of yin yoga.
