An excellent book!
Easy to follow patterns, charts and diagrams. Lots of photos and diagrams, good quality thick paper. UK crochet terms.I would definitely recommend this book.

Not for beginners
This book is not for beginners. It is beautiful and colourful with good illustrations and lovely design ideas, but it will not teach you how to crochet. I've awarded 4 stars because I thought it would be suitable for a near beginner but it's really not.

Lots of good features, but marred by the yarn used
There are indeed 100 squares and two different colourways are suggested for each as well as a third square as a slight pattern variation of the original. There is a section at the beginning with well-illustrated guides to the basic stitches, guidance on reading patterns and charts, and the thing I liked best, a short section on working with colour. For each square pattern, yarn requirements, in metres and yards, are given for throws in three sizes from baby to bed. This would be really useful if they were not using Aran/10 ply and a 5 mm crochet hook - I wanted to work in double knitting. There are a few projects scattered throughout the book, but again they are all worked in thick wool. They look really beautiful and are quite inspiring, but the thick yarn used throughout has deterred me from attempting anything from this book yet. All squares and projects are graded for difficulty level, which could be useful. This is a pretty book which could be perfect for some people, but for me there are better books out there. "Granny Squares" by Susan Pinner gets my vote!

Beautifully illustrated
I bought this book for myself as a cheeky Christmas present, wanting to use it to add variety to a pesonalised crocheted blanket I am putting together for a friend. The designs are beautiful and I am looking forward to trying every single one!The designs are rated either 'beginner', 'intermediate' or 'advanced', although I felt the book may be easier to sort through if these were orgainsed into the beginner patterns at the front, then intermediate then advanced rather than scattered through the book as they are. The beginner designs are beautiful but in order to follow the patterns I think you would need a fairly good understanding of the basic skills and stitches. There are illustrations of the various stitches at the front of the book but, again, I think these would probably be serve better as a reminder rather than a first time tutorial of the different stitches. There are loads of great ideas in this book as well as some ideas for further embellishments and personal touches which can be added to your designs such as different borders and edging and how to add beads, ribbons etc.Well worth a read for a keen crocheter :)

Disappointed
This book is without doubt good value for money, but print instructions are very small, also feint, quantity of yarn is shown in yards, which if purchasing in UK, can be difficult to calculate how much is needed, would have been helpful if gram alternative could have been shown

There is lots of nice granny squares in this book and some are most unusual , there are all sorts to choose from, most would suit a project. There is not many photos of finished items using the squares though which is a downfall. I have not tried any of the squares yet so I am unable to comment on how easy the pattern is to follow but there is written and diagram instructions. There is a multitude of coloured yarns that are used all of which go well together. I hope to use this book in the future, it is a nice sized book and would go on any coffee table!!!

I love this book. Simply scrumptious!
I love this book. I'm new to crochet, and this book could be used as an raw beginner's book, since it contains 12 pages that provide a brief introduction to materials, techniques, stitches, patterns and charts. However I would recommend a complete novice buys a book, such as Crochet (Dk) , as well as this book. Once you can do the common stitches (maybe after 1 weeks practice), you'll find this book is addictive, and this is the only book I'd take on holiday, along with some yarn and hooks. The designs in the book are simply scrumptious, and each design is beautifully illustrated, described in words, and where relevant, accompanied by a very clear chart. Each design also describes the skill level, and how much yarn is required.

I love this book
I love this book. It comes with clear instructions on how to form stitches. So far I crocheted 8 squares successfully, though once or twice I've struggled a little with the patterns. I originally learnt to crochet 50 years ago and have only come back to it in the last couple of weeks so I'm probably a little rusty. I love the pictures which have given me a good idea on how to use colour and patterns and am now working on a throw. I am absolutely addicted to this now. I have bought other patterns online but so far this book is far and away the best one that I have found.
