Good quality, but huge
Got this cuz I'm a big guy at 280. I thought this big would be needed. But it's too big. Why is it too big? Mainly, the cuff is too wide in that from my armpit to the elbow, it shows a diagram that you need to have the cuff end at 1 inch above the inside crease of the elbow. This band goes about 2 inches past my elbow. I'm 5'7" This is not really about being for people with big arms. It's more about people with long arms of people that are 6'2" or taller. And if you just really have too big an arm circumference. Also I did try to use it and my BP kept coming out 30 pts lower than the default band. It seemed that maybe the cuff was not sensing my arm pressure as well. I'm returning the XL band, but keeping the main setup as is.

For extremely long but not large arms
I have the Welch Allyn 1700 Series and the cuff broke (made a popping sound on inflation and would no longer work). I need to measure my blood pressure daily. My dad went out to the drug store late at night and bought the cheapest drugstore brand machine whose readings I don't trust. They seem high but might be accurate; I'm not sure. There is no Welch Allyn 1700 Series in stock to replace mine, and there was no standard sized cuff to replace mine. I've always been told by doctors that I have large arms when measuring my BP, so I purchased the extra large cuff since the standard (that had worked) was not stocked by Amazon. It's comically large-in terms of length. It goes up into my arm pit and still covers the crease of my elbow. The readings are drastically lower (like 30-40 points lower) than the drugstore monitor, but I don't really trust either at this point. There is no way to take an accurate reading because you can't leave a space between the end of the cuff and your elbow crease; it covers your elbow crease. It's also a very poor design for connecting and disconnecting the cuffs. You have to yank the tubing out of the old cuff and then shove the new cuff onto the new tubing (and first remove the tubing that comes with the new cuff). It seems like a MacGyver solution for a high end product.I ordered a standard sized cuff directly from the company but seems like it will take a while to arrive. Wish Amazon had had the standard size in stock. In the mean time I ordered yet another mid-priced blood pressure machine to hold me over that should arrive tomorrow from Amazon. A lot of expense for there not being the standard sized cuff in stock.

Great cuff for thin arms
I have a very thin arm so finding a smart blood pressure monitor and truly small cuff was pretty difficult. This one actually fit my arm and gives readings that match my doctor as long as I put it on correctly- that took me a bit to figure out but now it's easy.My upper arm is 7" around. I hope that helps.

How to use the XL cuff with this machine
It took forever for me to find a cuff and machine that worked together. I am chubby not huge so I was amazed how hard to was to find a cuff that would fit my arm. The XL cuff is a bit big but it was the only one that wasn't for little arms..The cuff comes with a different silver attachment which does not fit.First I thought they sent me the wrong machine and returned. Next machine same thing. The booklet shows to pinch and gently pull to detach the hose so you can attach a different size cuff. They need to update their little book!! That is not correct! It won't come off. It isn't supposed to.I contacted Welch Allen chat and they were useless, but when I called they were excellent. Super helpful. Knew exactly how to fix it in minutes.Apparently they were originally made with the silver connector to easily change cuffs on the same machine. The FDA decided that was not ok and so they had to go with the hose that does not detach from the machine. However the other cuff sizes where already made with the silver attachment. They just sell them and let you figure it out. They could easily have put an update card in the box to explain. They did nothing. What you need to do is take the cord on the XL cuff off completely. Where it attaches to the cuff you will feel a piece of plastic inside the cuff. Carefully move it around and out the hose hole to take it off. Then you take the hose attached to the machine and attach it where you just took the other hose off and you're ready to go.I am so annoyed they couldn't inform us of the change and how to correct it. I had to chase down the answer. I expect better from such a huge company in the medical field.Once attached it works great. I like the Bluetooth feature with the app. It auto records the reading and has a scale in color to show you were you are. It's basic which is really nice. I do wish the cuff was not so wide. It goes from my elbow to my armpit. It needs to be a little less wide but I am glad I finally found a system that works.
