Whats the water resistance of this watch like? Could I dip it in a bath for example

In general, the water resistance of watches is expressed in terms of the pressure that the watch can withstand when submerged for a short time in cold, still water. 30m may sound a lot but, if you're in moving water (or moving your hands through the water (like when you're swimming), the actual pressure on the watch is far greater than this. The same goes for wearing a watch in a shower, the bath or just running it under a tap. For practical purposes, 30m should be considered to be "splash proof" (Ok for washing the dishes, or for accidental short term exposure to water). For swimming, or for a watch that is going to get exposed to water frequently, then a water resistance rating of 100m (or 10atm) is generally recommended. It's also worth bearing in mind that the seals on the watch deteriorate over time and the water resistance will decrease. Most jewellers are able to pressure test the watch (the safest method is with air pressure) and, depending on how the watch is assembled, in some cases, they are able to replace the seals (although I've known some quite expensive watches made by a well known Swiss watch group to be returned from the manufacturer following repair to come with a note saying that the water resistance of the watch cannot be guaranteed following a repair).

The Japanese version will depreciate in price far slower. Do you happen to know where I can purchase it?

is this made in japan or china?

It is definitely not Japan, as all Seiko 5's made in Japan will say so on the dial. The watch is most likely assembled in Malaysia.

Is the day indicator in English?

It has two settings English and French you can set it to either when setting day pull crown out one click turn counter clockwise to set day this will roll though English then French select day turn crown clockwise and set date do not try to set watch day date when the hands are between 10pm and 3pm at night as this will damage the movement.
