Minaturization carried too far
When I stumbled on a reprint of Andrews' two-part monograph in Amazon, I was quite excited and immediately order the set. Because I have published on plesiosaurs, Andrews monograph is a famous and well known research tool that I have cited before. I was looking forwards to adding this scholarly work to my library. The books in a box arrived on time as promised, but I was immediately suspicious about the light-weight of the box. I was disappointed to find that the monograph had been reprinted at 50% the size of the original. This essentially made the all-important plates in the back of the book too small to to used in search. Granted, the quality of the reproductions are good, meaning the lines are crisp. However, in comparing them with my photocopied plates, details were harder to discern, so I returned the set. If you are more interested in the text (at 8 pt) than the figures, then I recommend the set. But if the figures are crucial, then go with a full-sized photocopy.Kenneth Carpenter, Ph.D.
