A revelation! No wasted wine!
These things are a revelation. First seen a similar product in use at a wine tasting in Italy and set about finding them when I returned home. So simple yet so effective.

Effective, but a couple of caveats about using them
Pouring from wine bottles has an annoying tendency to result in drips running down the outside of the bottle, onto your nice tablecloth or onto your unlacquered wood table. This is a simple but effective solution - a flexible disc which you roll up and insert into the neck of the bottle, and allows you to pour without getting drippage down the bottle.I will note a couple of caveats though about using them however:- When you want to finish pouring, don't bring the bottle upright too quickly or else the outflow may not stop quickly enough and a splosh overshoot the far side of the glass (as it did when I used this for the first time).- When taking the rolled-up disc out of the neck of the bottle, hold it to make sure it stays rolled up and let it open slowly, rather than allowing it to suddenly flip open and spray any extraneous globs of wine all over you (as it did all over a fresh clean white shirt I had just put on, when I used this for the first time). So there is scope when using these to still make a mess but in a different way, but if you take heed of the above warnings you should be fine. They are washable and reusable. There are less expensive versions of these from other manufacturers, so worth shopping around.

Not what I was expecting ...
Ok it’s probably my own fault for not looking properly at the product info but this wasn’t exactly what I expected it to be so it came as a bit of a shock to find two flat silver coloured discs in a plastic packet! Looking at the instructions you have to roll each circle into a cone shape and fit it inside the neck of the bottle you’re going to our from. That is easy enough but it gets tricky when it comes to pouring ... I just couldn’t get the timing jute right for quite a while and sploshed wine out over the table as it overshot the end of the pouring aid so rather than saving drops, I spilled wine! It took quite a bit of practice to get the action right so I’d suggest using an empty bottle filled with water to practise with first.

Brilliant little metal discs that make pouring (red) wine safer and easier!
These little metal discs are a brilliant - and simple - idea that really works! This pack contains two thin metal discs, all you do is curl one of them into a spout, insert it halfway into the top of a bottle of wine and - hey presto! - you have a pouring spout which stops drops of (red!) wine dripping onto tablecloths, carpets and clothes. What's really excellent is that you can reuse these discs hundreds of times, just rinsing the disc between bottles. The disc doesn't stain or crack and does not retain the flavour of the wine. It also doesn't affect the flavour of the wine when you pour it. These discs are amazing, and I have been using them for years happily, 100% recommended!

How does this work?
I have lost count of the number of times I have poured a glass of wine and somehow managed to get a drip on the table, tablecloth or down the side of the bottle. It's not the biggest issue in the world but somehow these little discs solve the problem. I guess that the creation of a slight funnel effect is the reason why - but I would be fascinated to understand the physics behind this device. You get a pack of two - which are reusable after rinsing in cold water. Less than a fiver at the time of this review. Since they will add a definite precision to your wine pouring and definitely stop drops that seems like a bargain to me.
