If you're after a decent workbench for the garage or workshop, this is the one
As someone who is just getting into serious DIY as a homeowner, this was an essential purchase. I really needed to upgrade from perching on the corner of a rickety workmate or second hand table when cutting things. So I did my homework and went for this MC Timber bench based on reviews, dimensions and the possibilty of purchasing additional smaller (or larger) benches in future as requirements dictate. It arrived in three separate packages; the top, the cross beams and lower shelf beams along with instructions and screws, and the legs. All packages were shrink wrapped in heavy plastic with bubble wrap/foam around the ends of the worktop. The top is preassembled and the largest - and heaviest - part. I managed to get the whole lot in a Golf with the seats down and the front passenger seat as flat as possible to get it to the workshop.New appreciation of DIY meant I was looking forward to both putting it together and using the end result. A drill/driver, spirit level, and a couple of 6" quick clamps were all I used to assemble it.The instructions were clear and assembly was easy on my own, the spirit level and clamps helping out when attaching the legs and cross beams. Total assembly time was around 45 minutes and the pilot holes helped immensely. I had one pilot go through a knot that I had to drill out a bit more myself, but hey, it's wood, and that's to be expected. I'd imagine assembly would be even faster if using an impact driver. As others have mentioned, turning the bench over on your own half way through the build can be a bit of a task. As a rough guide, I'd say if you remotely feel like a cup of tea and a sit down after carrying the packages, get someone to help you. It is heavy and you don't want it landing on your foot. The finished bench looks great in the workshop and now means I have a strong, flat, clear and safe area to now do woodwork and other DIY-related bits and bobs. I've supplemented it with a sacrificial piece of 12mm MDF on top, a 4" backboard to protect the wall behind it and a pegboard, and it's just brilliant! To summarise. A great quality workbench that was easy to assemble. If you're after a workbench, this is it.Now I'm off to make something...

Simple, solid and sturdy – which was exactly what I needed.
I have been planning to do some woodworking for a while, and when we moved into a bigger house, I finally had the room for a workshop when I realised that the garage didn't need to be used to store anything, least of all a car, of course, as – like most garages around here – it's too narrow for anything but a Morris Mini. After doing lengthy research into the world of proper woodworking benches, vices, etc, I found that spending anything less than £1,000 on a woodworking bench would just be a waste of money anyway as I'd need to get a better one down the line, or better vices at least, or modify it to be more sturdy. So, in the end I thought, why not get just a solid, simple workbench and modify it as I go along and as I need it? I am still a novice woodworker and I don't know the exact qualities I will need from a bench anyway, and so just a bench to get me started plus some experience actually working with wood on it will be what I need for me to know what to get later – or indeed to make myself, as many woodworkers do.That is when I found this one from MC Timber, or McTimber as I read it the first time I saw it. A quick calculation showed me that just buying the materials to make one like this on my own would probably cost me about half the price of the bench already, and that's not including all the time and work that would go into designing and building it, so I thought it a good deal.Shipping was estimated to take 3-4 working days, but only took two, which was quite impressive, and it came in three plastic-wrapped parcels with a bit of self-assembly required.Assembling it took just over one hour with an impact driver. With a hand screwdriver, I'd estimate it would take about twice as long. The instructions recommend being two assembling it, but the bits that can be a bit tricky alone, like attaching the long planks of the lower skirt, can be done alone with a set of clamps to hold the timber in place, which is what I did. I also found the clamps useful for keeping other bits in place too. Before the cross braces were screwed in place, for which I also had to mark up some new guide holes since I aligned the legs to fit tightly inside the lower skirt, the bench feels very sturdy and solid, with no wobble whatsoever. The top is not perfectly smooth, but it is even, flat and perfectly level relative to the legs. There were a few of the pieces that had a little bit of a warp to them, but when all is fitted tightly together, the total is greater than the sum of its parts, and it becomes a solid workbench that will serve me well for years to come.If you're in the market for something simple and solid, I can highly recommend these benches.

New a good quality sturdy bench? This is for you.
I've been looking at a bench for some months deciding exactly what I needed for my workshop. From high spec. Chinese steel constructions with all the bells and whistles to simple benches. I decided to go the simple route and this bench fitted the requirements exactly.I had a query that Tonia at MC Timber responded to immediately and delivery was super fast and the courier driver even called to say the item had been delivered and placed where I needed it to be.Assembly is super easy and quick. Quality is exactly what I expected and more so. It's a fantastic bench and am really very pleased with it.I love the fact that it is made just up the road and in this country. Supporting a local, family run company. If you need an extremely sturdy bench that will last you a lifetime then this is the product and company for you. My wife now wants one for her potting shed.I'll be letting everyone know how good this product is.

Good value solid workbench.
Good solid workbench. A few coachbolts, instead of screwnails may help it to retain its rigidity. Good value for the price.

Heavy Duty Workbench
Got my bench 3 days earlier than expected, well done to MC workers for this. The quality I have seen is excellent, all timbers appear to be well treated, and the workbench top fully assembled. I am looking forward to getting this assembled into my shed and using it. Anyone who wants a good quality bench at a good price look no further !. I am happy to recommend this item to anyone.I have now assembled this and found it very easy to follow the directions and get it up and running. The bench is excellent for what I require, and is a standard height. I will probably buy another to put my wood lathe onto but it will be of bespoke height for that purpose. This is a good solid product which I hope will last me for years.
