*Until whenever I live, love is my candy"
I have read a fair amount of western poetry. Having read Gilbran, ( I adored The Prophet especially) ,I wanted to expand my reading and Rumi was suggested to me. This is my first experience and I cannot, therefore, compare with other translations to English or with interpretations by others. The very brief biography at the beginning was welcome. As with any poetry, one reading is rarely enough and so I will be rereading to absorb and better understand, though some lines are very straightforward and beautiful:"I am yours. Don't give me back to myself"

Rumi at His More Enigmatic
I have long found Rumi's in words, wonderful, inspirational gems of wisdom. For example, "If there is light in your heart, you will find your way home." Another example, "Don't you know yet, it is your light that lights the world." Also, "Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you." And( something like), "Lo, the caravan of civilization is in disarray. Everywhere, fools are in charge." Somehow, for me, much of this particular collection/translation of Rumi's poems was somehow a bit too impenetrable and didn't quite live up to my expectations. Still, it is Rumi: "I found myself in being nobody, so I weaved the self and nobody together."

A more literal translation of Rumi's poems by a native Persian speaker
A new translation by a native Persian speaker of a selection of Rumi’s beloved poems, presented in five sections: love, happiness, candle, light, and heart. Those who appreciate Rumi’s mystical poetry will know there are seemingly endless translations, and some translations may resonate more strongly with the reader than others. While S. Morteza Lajevardi’s translation feels authentic to Rumi’s individual words, some of the beauty, flow, and mysticism inherent in other translations is lost along the way. That said, Rumi was at once medieval and modern, his poems transcending place and time, and this more literal translation of his works still stands up well.Though Rumi’s poems never originally carried titles, over the centuries many of his poems have attracted titles, often based on the first lines or on the core themes of the poem in question, and it would be a good addition to this book to include these titles, to enable to reader to read between translations or to look up the longer pieces the translated lines may belong to.

A different perspective
Rumi, known for his ecstatic and spiritual verses, has long been celebrated as one of the most influential poets in the world. This book, through the lens of the talented translator, manages to capture the essence of Rumi's poetry while maintaining the poetic flow and spiritual depth that are so intrinsic to his work. The translation strikes a balance between fidelity to the original text and making it accessible to contemporary readers.
