Q: I'm looking to put in b&w stav24 s2 speakers stands. these are 600 mm high, two column stands. anyone have an idea of how many tubs i need?

I would think that you will need at least two tubs of Atabites as the starting point. I am using Atacama stands with single fill columns 660 mm high. I managed to fill two single circular column speaker stands with one tub of Atacama Atabites. I didn't have enough to fill the columns to the the top. On memory, I think I was able to fill them three quarters of the way but the bamboo spiked bases of the Atacama stands I use were also fitted with Atacama metal base plates to provide extra weight and dampening. I have noticed that the two columns in the B&W stav24 s2 speaker stands are square and may take a higher volume than the Atacama stands. However, with Hi Fi it comes down to experimentation. You may not need to fill the column stands right to the top to achieve good results; 60% may turn out to be enough. It is rather like experimenting with setting up your speakers at different distances away from the wall (assuming they are not designed to be placed up against the wall) and finding out where they best sound in your room. I also found that it was easiest to use a funnel to fill the stands with. What I can say is that filling my stands with the Atabites made a big difference and the results were worth the investment. No point in spending a lot of money on a system and then not setting it up to its best ability. As an extra, if you haven't already and you can afford it, it is also worth experimenting with mains power cables that can make a big difference to getting the best out of a system. Many HI Fi manufacturers now produce them over the standard in-box cables and I would recommend Russ Andrews Accessories as a starting point. However, it might be your priority to protect your bank account!

Looks like 2 tubs but you only have to fill stands up to 2/3's of each leg.

I couldn't find the Atacama se24 speaker stands on their website to check the size. If it helps, I have the Atacama Moseco 7 Speaker Stands. One tube of Atacama Atabites (7 Kg) was sufficient to dampen both columns to good effect. It didn't fill both speaker stand columns right to the top but you don't need to to get good performance from your speakers. Probably best to contact Atacama for advice.
