Great book!
My daughter loves these books! Neon Leon and leap frog are very affective for bedtime routines!

Not very positive
I bought this book as my family loves chameleons. The illustrations are nice and colourful however I'm not really sure about the message it gives to the reader. It's quite negative and we thought it basically says 'you won't be happy as yourself, only if you fit in with others that look the same!'

Beautiful illustration. Awful message.
We were given this as a gift. My daughter loves the colours in this book and regularly asks for it at bedtime. However I have had to totally change the story to remove what are, in my view, quite damaging themes. I am frankly surprised this was even published; to devise a character from what is an animal that can fit in wherever it goes to then define Leon by his skin tone, and then on top of that to suggest that he is disliked by all those who are not the same is appalling. As a parent to a child who has ethnically different parents this book risks having her feel unable to fit in with those who’s skin tones are different from hers. I would simply remove it from our shelf but as she enjoys the visual stimulation I have been forced to tell it in my own way, where I present it as a chameleon that goes around exploring different cultures and goes home to tell his friend. Authors and publishers should feel a responsibility for the message that has been sent out here. I would not buy this book and would strongly advise others against it.

Really disappointing
I judged a book by it's cover and bought Neon Leon expecting a colourful, rhyming book with an interesting message (as lots of nosy crow books often do). But we were really disappointed. The illustrations are great but the writing feels so stilted and lacks in any fun story that we barely made it to the end. My 2yo lost interest and I was really struggling to get him enthused about anything I was reading. Just seemed a bit soul-less and not particularly fun. Plus the message was that he needed to fit in rather than be happy with who he is which isn't really what we go for in this house. Would have given one star but the illustrations are worth recognition.

Love Leon
This story is brilliant. I like it as much as my son for bed time stories. Neon Leon is different from his friends and tries to find a friend like him. The Tory is told in an interactive way, getting the child to participate in the story and the drawings are striking.

Offensive, racist message
I will be writing to the publishers to make a complaint about this book. The message is very negative and basically saying that if you are not the same as very one else you will not be tolerated and have to leave. The only people that will accept you are those that are the same colour as you (in Leon’s case ‘Neon’)I will be returning this book as it is offensive.
