Elizabeth/Elizabeth - The Golden Age

I bought this package for my wife for Christmas - and she loved it. The two films themselves, according to my wife, do not portray the true picture as it happened - but never the less she found both DVDs very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Some of the historical is content is true to history - some not. The two DVDs do represent different parts of her life.I must admit the little bit I did watch - it was gory! Some sort of torture chamber and it did make me wince - but then again, that's how it was in times gone by. Cate Blanchet is one of my wife's favourite actresses, and in both films she did not disappoint - giving a real first class performance supported by some great actresses.The package comes with additional bonus content so overall, a sound and worthwhile investment. Overall, I guess if you like period historical drama as my wife does - this is a super collection - if you don't - I suggest you avoid.Highly recommended.

I bought this disk to replace my 14 year old copy of Elizabeth which had become unusable due to DVD rot. Part of centre of disc had lost it's silver coating so my DVD player could not play it. It pays to keep checking your old, and probably much loved DVD's, just in case then you may be able to replace them.

Love this dvd a bit strange though when at the end the written bit to explain the rule of queen Elizabeth 1 goes off screen and you can only see the top bit.

This is a worthwhile package featuring the fine historical dramas 'Elizabeth' and 'Elizabeth:The Golden Age'.Both movies show Elizabeth 1st at different stages of her life and though they have received some critisism about their historical inaccuracies they are entertaining and well worth watching.Cate Blanchett is fantastic in the lead role and you can't take your eyes off her.She is a wonderful actress and she is at her very best in both movies.There is very good support from the likes of Geoffrey Rush,Clive Owen,Christopher Eccleston,Joseph Fiennes and many others.The cinematography is excellent also.Of the two,'Elizabeth' is the better movie but as a double DVD set this is a treat and definitely well worth a look.There are also extras on the two discs which make this an even better purchase.

Absorbing, engaging, entertaining, and provocative. High-quality at every level. If you were being really picky, you'd say, "ah yes, but they didn't look or sound or behave like that at all. Back then things were very different." To counter this you then say, "quite so, but as no-one can possibly know what it was really like, let's reveal our best possible guess based on historical fact, and then breathe some life into it to make the story roar along." Beyond the costumes and glamour, the writing, the visual impact and direction, not to mention the superlative acting, make this a fantastic collective achievement.

The first film is fantastic, especially Cate Blanchett in the title role and Geoffrey Rush as an early George Smiley. I don't know how much of it's true but it's a great thriller, well told, even knowing that the baddies aren't going to succeed. And for for the ladies, there's even a smouldering Daniel Craig.The sequel, like so many others, isn't so good but at this price it's more or less buy one, get one free.

Whether on Blue Ray or HD DVD - this is simply amazing on the TV.I think it was filmed for the BBC and they have some of the best cinomatographers ever.Good acting from Kate and all the cast. The long shot views of the spanish armada are breathtaking.A real step back in time.A good piece of history - a great film.Sayonara
