Nikki: Wild Dog of the North

In 1968 when I was 5 years old, my mother took me to visit a couple she knew here in Fairbanks, Alaska. What I remember is they lived in a tent or Quonset hut of some kind. I thought, wow, those were worse conditions than we lived in; a small Airstream trailer that kept 6 of us. They introduced me to their dog and he was very old, but when I went over to pet him, he licked me all over my face and I instantly fell in love with him. His name was Nikki, "he was the wild dog of the north", the very dog depicted in this film. The owners shared about his life with us and they gave me a record that was made of Nikki's story. Back then, the story was on a 33 LP record album as well as the film by Walt Disney. My 3 brothers and I spent many, many nights listening to Nikki's story, it was so cool to see the film after 42 years. I thoroughly enjoyed it, shedding a tear remembering Nikki and the day I spent with him. The story his owner told really had an impression on me as a little girl. Nikki was full of love and affection, battered and torn in the wild and then came through full circle back to love and affection. A lesson we can all learn about life. I was so thrilled to have stumbled across this film and hope you enjoy it! Nikki truly was a friend, and I loved him. He died sometime that year in 1968 I believe, but his memory will always live in my heart.

I've lived this movie since I was a child and was thrilled when I saw it was that available on DVD!

This is a classic for me! So happy I found it!

This film came at a time when our world was clean and adventure was a pure and brave aspect. Nikki is a story that shows love of a different kind then the adventure or dramas of today. The film is a little harsh when it shows the cruelty of man towards animal but it also shows man's cruelty to man. But it reveals the love and devotion that a dog or any animal can feel towards another animal or to a human. The bravery and courage of Nikki throughtout the film climaxed with him still being a loving and devoted animal to his man friend, even though MAN had tried to harm him and make him mean. The scenery and naration throughout the film is great and made the film come alive to me. I was only 10 years old when Nikki was released for viewing and I cried because I never knew anyone to hurt a animal before and it taught me to respect the animals because they were here first and deserve to be loved and taken care of by us. Thank God for Walt Disney.

Received on time and well packaged. Been looking for this movie since I first saw in the sixties. A Disney historical classic. A very good movie.

I watched this movie a bunch when I was a kid and we recently got a Malamute, largely because my viewings of this film made me somewhat obsessed with Malamutes. It was honestly a little hard to watch the puppy and the bear cub tied together and it made me wonder (often) whether the same animal cruelty standards for films existed back in 1961. I still enjoyed it mostly though and it's even funnier in a way because I totally forgot the name of the film until I bought it last week and when we got our puppy 10 months ago, we named her "Nukka". Freud was definitely on to something I think...

This film excels in entertaining while educating. Aside from the antics of Nikki, a malamute, and Neenaw, a bear cub, we get a little insight into the lives and culture of trappers in Canada's history.I'm so glad that Amazon has made this available as DVD copies are becoming more scarce. The only problem is the aspect ratio. It's a bit squished. But some probably would'nt notice it right away.

We always had a Malamute from the time our grandson was born. Before he could even walk they were best friends. When Niki; Wild Dog of the North was first avalable, the two of them would watch it. As he grew older and the dogs changed the routine never changed.Diferent dog but still best friends. The vidio finally gave out. We got this copy and gave him the best present he could have wanted. I think we will see more Malmutes and Great Grands watching it.

Watched this movie all the time with my grandma when I was little, and she was thrilled to receive this for her birthday.

my wife used to live in same place this dog was at. she used to play with the dog that was the main character.,she loved the movie

I realize this is a VHS tape but it did not play steady , kept missing video for long periods of time. Most of the story was only audio. Very unhappy with this purchase

The film itself is a fun old school Disney nature adventure. Beautiful scenery and gorgeous animals. Had a bit of a challenge finding a copy at a reasonable price and am glad I was patient and sought out a better price.
