Q: Can an adult use this without restrictions? I assume I can remove these with the parental controls?

Yes! You can! Go into the Alexa App on your phone & turn off "Parental Control".

Q: Any recommendation for portable battery base?

I bought a GGMM D5 battery base for my son. He can then take the Echo Dot from room to room without having to plug and unplug the outlet multiple times. I think it's safer and more convenient.

Beneath “add to cart” and the return policy, there is a box you should uncheck which reads “link device to your Amazon account to simplify setup”. As long as you do not link this device to your account, then I believe it will activate the Amazon kids plus subscription under your family member’s account when they link the device to their account during set-up. This goes for all Amazon devices you gift to others: echo, fire, ring, etc
