VINTAGE ANALOGUE SOUND FROM DIGITAL AT LAST
I bought this after reading some reviews many hi-fi enthusiasts like me look for analogue vintage sound which is so far ahead of digital sound that to me it sounds clinical and artificial. When I first heard digital sound I thought my equipment was broken. All those expensive cans people buy such as Shure (stick to making pickup cartridges) sound terrible to my highly tuned ears.Sorry but they do.I also have a fiio x5ii which while being very good sounds clinical. The P1 sounds superb I have never heard a flac player like it. Some people are having trouble with line out I use it with my Pioneer Spec 1 and 2 and my SA9800 amplifier it works great just remember to put it in earphone mode and increase the volume to maximum. If this doesn’t work it means the impedance needs matching try putting some 10k resistors in series with the output and amplifier input. The artificial sound effects are also very good. IT lacks the power on its own to power full size vintage cans but it will match very well with a Fiio E12 the 1st version is the one to get this will then drive 250 ohm vintage cans.If you are looking for true vintage analogue hi-fi sound this is the one to go for. I even like the analogue meters it has as a display. After all sound is analogue and so are your ears so why compromise The only downside I have found is the battery could last longer and it is not user replaceable. Since I last reviewed this unit it just gets better I for one thought with the advent of digital sound that the end was in sight for analogue but this unit has replaced my cassette decks and at the moment I am digitising my huge original vinyl collection something I never expected to do . I keep trying other units such as my Fiio X5mk2 and a hifiman 901 I borrowed just to act as a control in case it was my imagination (I come from a scientific background) They are good but they sound digital and artificial as I expected I have no idea how Cowon have managed this but they have now don’t go and do something silly and improve it with a new model I would like to have seen duel mono Dacs as an improvement However, upon trying a unit from Cayin which does perhaps you should leave it alone. Now my only worry is how long will it last this ultimately may prove to be its Achilles heel.

I've owned a Cowon X7 and X9 and was incredibly satisfied with both
What am I hearing?! I've owned a Cowon X7 and X9 and was incredibly satisfied with both, so I thought I would save my pennies and give this a whirl. First impressions were good, but I must admit that perhaps I was expecting a revelation and was slightly disappointed that it didn't sound drastically different to the X7 or X9. But this was naive and the more I listened, the more I heard precise detail, incredible clarity and complete separation between each part of the music. I heard things in all time favourite songs that I had no idea were on there. Listening in a perfectly quiet room at night through my Klipsch X11 headphones is like diving into a pool of liquid water, or trekking through a forest of sound. You can almost feel as if you are looking around and examining each part of the music from the inside. Putting it through my Marantz pm6005 amp and Q Audio 2050 speakers was another incredible moment. I cranked them all the way up and blasted some Andy C mixes with the bass very high and heard not a hint of distortion. It was like hearing god. Enough superlatives, buy this.
