Great filter.
I bought a second hand 60 gallon fish tank and it came with one stingray filter and I added an extra one. The string ray was looking a bit tired recently, did the weekly clean but not much difference, decided to get a new one as I have no idea how old the existing one is, once switched on I could tell right away that a new filter was what I needed as the stream of water and amount of bubbles indicated that instantly. Might even purchase a second to replace the other filter I bought for it, it's a small one from Amazon that has like a rod and stream's of water come out and produce bubbles but it's rather noisy and id rather just have two small stringray filters as they turn more water and are much, much quieter.

Very good filter
I'be bought the smallest version of this filter as I have only 30l aquarium and after 2 months of usage I may say I am very happy with it. It's powerful enough and so silent I cannot hear it at all. It's also much smaller than other filets and less visible in small tank. I have very small fishes and no any dead issues (as it was mentioned in other reviews). I think it's probably only a case for bigger version, because mine has very small space behind it, so I cannot imagine any fish to be trapped there. But I did modified it as some reviewers suggest. I replaced carbon cartridges with sponge from my old filter (just cut it to fill the space) and also filled inlet (tail part) with filter wool to protect from bigger particles. So now I just need to replace the dirty wool once a week and clean sponge once in 2 weeks and my aquarium is crystal clear.

Requires a little modification to be tank-friendly. Super quiet
I have one of each size of stingray filter, and they all have shown excellent performance to-date.They are quiet, easy to clean, reliable, and they look good too. There is an issue with the cost of zeolite replacements. My advice is to take them out from day one and discard them. The zeolite does effectively remove ammonia from your tank, but that is what the bacteria are meant to do in your filter. The idea of 'cycling' a tank, is to cultivate a nice balance of good bacteria in your filter and gravel. If you remove the ammonia chemically with the zeolite, you starve off the bacteria, and so your tank can not be maintained unless you endlessly replace your zeolite every 4 weeks. If you're new to fish keeping, I suggest you read up on 'cycling an aquarium' before you start buying the fish. So, remove the zeolite cartridges and stuff the space with filter wool or other fish-friendly filter material.Second issue is injury to fish - not from being sucked up the filter - this is NOT an issue with adult fish and has never once happened. But when you suction cup the filter to the glass, a very small 0.5cm gap remains between glass and filter. So what, you might think? What could fit down there? A guppy will, and a tetra, and even a danio. I know from experience! Fish will find any crevice in your tank to explore/jump into, and if you don't spot them in time, they're dead.Solution? A non-toxic sheet of tank friendly silicon did the trick for me, tucked between the filter and the glass, or you can stuff filter wool behind the filter. Anything to stop little fishies going in there.Pros - Filters quick, quietly, lots of water agitation for great oxygen exchange. No noise, simple to clean. Lasts a long time, even in hard water.Cons - the zeolite cartridges are not needed in a healthy cycled tank. Using them can make your tank dependent on them as they can starve the good bacteria. You need those good bacteria in your filter to keep your water parameters healthy!Warning - small fish like guppies, danio and tetra can get trapped between filter and glass. Use a non-toxic material like filter wool to fill the gaps. It is not suited to fry! They get sucked into the filter and die.

Great filter
When I first got my little oranda, it lived in a tiny 10 litre tank with a cheap little filter for 2 weeks. (Shame on me.) So I brought this power filter since the water looked cloudy. It was so cheap on offer! (Brought it on here for £13.) 2 hours later, the water was crystal clear. A week later, I decided to upgrade the tank to a 71 litre but had to fill it to 30 litres for the current filter. Wished I've upgraded everything sooner and brought the next sized up filter. Even with the new, big tank and the Stingray 5 filter, it can still blow my fish across the tank so careful where you aim the nozzle unless you're sure your fish enjoys the exercise.-Powerful (for the correct sized tank)-Does the job, Clear water.-Happier fish. Look at him!-Stuff some filter wool behind the filter if you're afraid of little fish getting stuck between the glass and filter.-Silent. I can barely hear it though I don't mind the constant drone of regular filters.

Great little filter
The media could not be loaded. Was recommended this filter by a friend bit early to tell as only just set up tank but seems very quiet and perfect size for what we wanted so far so good

quiet and effective....
I purchased one of these to replace my current one of the same model, my current one has been very reliable over the last few years however its started to get louder therefore i ordered this one.Upon arrival the packaging was sealed and undamaged.I opened the box to find that the actual filter didn't create an air tight seal and you couldn't close it due to a design fault (compared to my current one) i have returned it for a refund.I would reccomend this filter as long as you receive one without any design faults. Once the filter is up and running it is easy to clean and is very quiet.

Superb little filter
I’ve had these in my tanks for years and they are way better than your average cartridge filter. I’ve tried all sorts over the years and found all of them fail to stick to the glass at some point and then they are rattling around and stressing the fish out. With these because of their shape you don’t get that rattle and they don’t move about in the water and I’ve never had the impeller jam up either with these where if a snail got caught up in my old filters they normally find their way into the impeller and jam the whole thing up. They are really easy to clean and rarely had to change the larger aggregate filters as they wash out so easily.
