Make sure you obtain the right gear box it will turn in to right or left sided lock. As theres different lenghts and i bought it for oldar pvc door. By unscrewing and turning the part that pushes in and out by hand. Be careful to make sure it aligns so the hook parts will turn.

The lock failed on our upvc kitchen to conservatory door and I didn't want to pay a big call-out fee so I went onto YouTube and did some research. Anyway, I figured out that the gearbox was faulty. So I took the door apart and worked out which gearbox I needed and found it on Amazon. So, the unit seems well made and matched the old one. There was bit of messing about but I worked out what to do and installed it. And it works well. So I'm pleased with myself and saved a couple of hundred pound.

EDIT: Completely ignore the below review! Whilst the item was a life saver, just 7 months later the gearbox spring has failed and now means I have to find another replacement. The original lasted over 11 years, this has lasted 7 months! Be aware! The locking gearbox on our front door failed a few months back. I managed to fix it with a bit of super glue to hold the broken parts together. This was because we were desperate to be able to lock the door and simply couldn't find an adequate replacement or one that would fit or once that didn't mean having to remortgage. As expected, the glue failed and once again we're left unable to lock the door. I found this after having previously measured the mechanism and it looked suitable so I bought it. £17 later and it was a sinch to fit. It was a little thicker than the previous one so I had to use a few love taps with a hammer to get it in. However, hole placement, handle bar, lock placement were all spot on. Complete like for like replacement. Couldn't be happier!

It works fine, yes a few bits of Dremmel grinding of the existing latch but fitted and working a treat. You need to remove the strip mechanism from the door, just a few screws. Remove the old lock and replace. Make sure you have the key lock in the correct pisition with the top and bottom clamps locked or open too or it wont work. Nothing major if you have a few tools. Saved buying a new door at £500 +. Im just a DIY'er and managed fine
