The pack that it comes in says "Synthetic Chamois" so it is not an animal skin.

Does the chamois come in a container to store it in for repeat usage?

No, it does not. I don't think it's a good idea to store the chamois in a container, it is better just folded and left unsealed. It will become stiff as it dries, but it only needs a quick soak in water for 30 seconds for it to return to normal. An excellent product, well worth looking after as the supplied instructions indicate.
