Nadal uses two overgrips so yes it can be used on the bare racket

do these have a self adhesive backing?

Yes they do. It’s slightly tacky to allow you to get tension and for it to stay in place as you apply it. There is a very sticky piece at the end to allow you to finish the grip off properly.

can this be used on golf clubs?

Never really thought about it to be honest. But I see no reason why not. They wouldn’t be much cop in the rain mind as they get a bit slippy when wet or very damp. Easy to put on and take off and very comfortable.
